Hi Rich I had exactly the same issue with my seals. I measured the profile dimensions and managed to match it with some off the roll at LAS (UK based aero parts supplier). You will need to drill out the 50 or so rivets and remove the seal retaining strip and then cut the new one to length and rivet it back etc. I couldn't see another way to do a lasting repair but I had my canopies in pieces to re-paint so that made it easier. I will post the details of what I have here and part numbers if you cant get it in your location. Rgs Harv Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=333941#333941

    Subject: gear door standoff spacing
Looking for information on the spacers on the lower gear door standoff bolt s... length of each spacer=2C number and thickness of washers=2C plus place ment. There are plenty of washers on my friend's CJ's doors on one side plus it d oesn't seem to be quite right and it doesn't look like it's mating quite ri ght when the gear comes up based on the marks in the wing skin. I take the lower doors off for doing the gear swing... is it possible to sw ing the gear with the doors on? Seems like you'd have to jack the plane up to the moon. Thanks=2C Jon

The spacer dimensions are determined by trial and error measurement and fitting with the aircraft on the correct jacks. Certainly it is possible (not to mention necessary) to swing the gear with the doors in place. Contact Doug for the right jacks. Not the same as a proper windlace laced or riveted to the strip, but this is what I used: http://www.mcmaster.com/#8694k87/=bg982z Depending on your canopy you may need a slightly thinner or thicker version but this looks good and seems to be an appropriately dense rubber. The backing is very sticky. Be sure you have it exactly where you want it the first time. -------- Mike Bell Elk Grove, CA avbell2(at)comcastdotnet Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=334033#334033

The Whelan kit is very good. We installed it on all of our restorations with very good results. The kit is more expensive than some others, but it is reliable, easy to install, and the comet flash is a much enhanced visual aid. Happy Flying, Barry -------- Barry Hancock Worldwide Warbirds, Inc.
