Guys, a common culprit of nose wheel shimmy on the CJ is improper pressure in the
nose wheel strut. Check to make sure you have proper pressure there (I'm on
the road and don't recall the number). But a 200 lb. guy hanging from the prop
should be able to deflect the strut about 2-3"....

Hello,
the shimmy damper is only fighting the real problem. That is considerable unbalance
and run out of the rim. You can not fix run out after manufacture of the
wheel. But you can do a lot more to balance the wheels by adding lead weights
to the rims. With the main wheels you can put stick-on weights inside the rim
- see photo. With the nose wheel there is less scope for that. But I would pour
lead into the cavity opposite the valve, let it cool, then take it out, clean
and degrease the weight and rim cavity and glue it in with silicone. The unbalance
is mainly caused by the valve and rubber block of the inner tube. In fact
this can be more than 150 grams/ 5 ounces. You would definitely not accept
that on your car.
Cheers
Vic
