Hi Harv;
Everything aft of the rear seat with the exception of the SBL40 Inverter can
be removed along with associated wiring.
There are no gyro-compass components in that area.
On the shelf between the seats you can remove only one item. I cant' recall
the name right now but it is the central item, a grey box about 4.5" square
containing some large relays. This and all wiring can go.
>From left to right you must retain: -- SBL35 Inverter, TH3 Gyro unit, FL3
Amplifier, EX Junction Box and the Power Supply relay Box.
But; there could be complications: If your aircraft was modified to a solid
state voltage regulator that is also located on that shelf. Whether that
installation was done without moving other units I do not know.
Don't throw away anything yet! If you take the time you will find a number
of useful items for your spares box.
Cheers;
Walt

The box mounted on the spar just aft of the front cockpit was a solid
state voltage regulator in my aircraft.
This component does not appear in the parts books as it was a military
mod, part of the charging system,
do not remove it or associated wiring..

Walt I have 1965 CJ . The compass sensor is just in front of the rudder .
You don't want to injure those cables .

Good point Terry;
On my 1965 and other early ones I have done it is in the LH outer wing. I
totally forgot about that change and you are right - so Harv - don't cut
