Noel, excellent video and air display! thanks for posting.
About outside loops, what speed do you get when diving inverted and does the Yak
52 have any slipstream effect to the left when going at low speeds in an outside
loop?
if so, do you correct it with the right rudder only or by putting the right wing
a little down as well?

I have not personally seen a set up like Hal's before. A rear louver
system was produced on the 52TWs and 52Ws. I remember some the guys had a few
bugs for a while. Aerodynamic & operational wise I'm not convinced they
are any better. I'm of the old school where you don't go to something new
unless what you have is worn out and needs to be replaced. Than spend the
time and money on the new idea.
An inverted oil system is do able. There is plenty of room under the
cowl. Running a vent line to the tail, while it sound "clean" (unless you run
it externally on the skin- yuk! ) the number of bulkheads and spar web you
would need to transverses makes it a complicated task.
Under the cowl you might use a modified Yak 52 system. The oil tank would
need to modified with a oil pick up point on the top of the tank somewhere
and a ball slid tube and "T" inserted in the feed line somewhere.
All this is a do able project, which I contemplated at length one time.
My decision not to, was based on the only 4 facts as I SEE them.
1. The CJ is not a good design (was not meant to be) for extended inverted
flight.
2. I do not do extended inverted flight.
3. The short inverted flight that I do - do, not that much oil goes
overboard.
4. I rather spend the money on petrol.
BTAIM, that is the great thing our airplanes in the Experimental /
Exposition cat. We can carry out our dreams and ideas to make a better mouse
trap
or at least one that has our mark on it. Me? I put on a gas machine gun
and bomb shackles that work. (Plus I have a neat looking gun sight)

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the following on a CJ:
1. A "closed" cowling mod like the one on Hal Morely's CJ with some sort
of rear louvers.
2. An inverted oil tank system or taking the stock tank vent and running
it to the rear of the airplane.
Thank you,
Keith McKinley

Keith,
I have not seen a cowling with rear vent controls. I use a Sukhoi iris on the
front with a remote actuator. At 16,500' feet, 5 degrees f, for about 2.5 hours
engine stayed warm. Also works well on descents.
My oil tank vent line runs Sukhoi style from the tank to the rear of the plane.
No oil down the side so far.

Has anyone ever experimented with modifying the supercharger ratio on the CJ6?
I've read the Chinese produced 'some' higher power versions of the HS6 radial engine,
anyone care to guess how they did this?

After two 3 minute routines, the belly of my CJ is covered, even with the oil level
fairly low. I don't do extended inverted flight either but just pushing over
the top of a vertical maneuver or during a hesitation roll or even a HH is
enough to let it rip.
Realistically it's not a lot of oil but it just spreads out everywhere and gets
into every conceivable crack and crevice. Plus that 25w-60 is like tar!
I just started thinking about the possibility of running a vent tube to the tail
after looking at a similar set up in a Pitts 12.
Good luck with school!

Etienne,
Last week I was in a meeting with Belgium CAA and they told us about your
mails to them.
you have succeeded in grouding all the russian registered YAK in Belgium and
France and Netherland will probably follow the move.
We all thank you for your huge effort in telling everywhere that a RAK YAK
is more dangerous than the other registrations.
The result is in temporarily grouding. BRAVO.
Now you can be known as the man who grouded the YAK
We will remember that.
Thanks again

Subject: | CJ Oil tank vent |
Many operators, me included have run a line from the tank vent up to the engine
case vent, located just forward of the generator and behind #1. I used a "Y"
fitting with a hose barb. The gear case vent also pukes oil during "maneuvering"
flight. I wrapped some filter media around it so it still vents. Others actually
mount a small paper crankcase breather vent.
Helps.
