Hi there Friends
My prop is coming up for overhaul, and it will have to go to the guys here
in South Africa, there is only one place that will do it....the sad news, I
have heard of hassles being had after the overhaul....
I am wondering what are the tricks to this overhaul? are the seals very
specific? Is there anything that needs to be checked on before and after the
work is done so I can be sure that the work has been done correctly!
Cheers and thanks

For those that are wanting to do this, it is a simple fabrication. The
nose case must have the left side (as seen from the cockpit) round
access panel. Usually found on Series II engines. But not always
associated with Series II.
Obtain a piece of clear Plexiglas, 1/4" thick, large enough to cover the
opening in the nose case when the round access panel is removed. Cut the
Plexiglas to size and secure it to the nose case with the screws/bolts
removed from the metal access panel. You will need a new gasket. That's it.

Jj,
Sorry to say it bud butyou and a soap suds squirt bottle are
going to become friends. How long has it been since you replaced the
braided airline to your brakes? If it is leaking down with your air shut
off valve closed I would start by looking at the fitting connecting to
the air shut off valve and that valve itself. Next the lines coming into
it from the bottles. Worst yet a pin hole in one of the bottles. Then it
is a straight shot back to the check valves on the fire wall. That
includes the pop off valve.
Someone was talking about the ultrasonic leak detectors they bought on
Ebay. That may become your playtime friend also if you get tired of
soapy water that is.

Sure. It is in your pneumatic system.

Check the external air fill port with soapy water. If you have bubbles,
you can start tracing where and why it is leaking. Secondly, with the
snot bottle closed, see if you can put a small cup of water over the
drain tube. Bubbles there would indicate the pop off valve is not
seating AND you have a leaking check valve further up the line. At
least this is two starting points.

Great idea, but I think I would use Lexan- a lot tougher. TAP Plastic
shops usually have small pieces.

Francois, sorry I didn't realize you mentioned the name of the aircraft in the
title of the thread.
Have you considered the option of doing the overhaul overseas and then just installing
the finished product in SA? Just PM you some detailed info that should
be quite helpful if you consider that option.

I beleive that pad was originally for an oil cleaning centrifuge driven
off the nose gears.

The emergency gear extend valve started to leak. As soon as I fixed that the
main air shut off
Valve leaked. Pull out the valve, NAPA "O" ring and a little silicone. Perfe
