My 18T is now close to flying after a rather extensive refurb and I noticed today that the battery box is missing. Does anyone have pics and dimension s of the box or perhaps a suitable mod to use different batteries. Has anyo ne cut off the original connectors and soldered on new ones to suit the new battery type? And how are the batteries held in place?=0A-=0AAlso does a nyone know where I can buy the chrome storm window surrounds or even have t hem made, mine are really rusted.=0A-=0AMany thanks,=0A-=0ARegards Ant down under.

To set the record straight: =D8 The idea of the =93window=94 was not to be able to inspect the gearbox in use, but was developed by Sergio Dallan in Italy as part of his oil shut-off system. =D8 So there was a valve on the oil supply preventing oil coming down to the engine, controlled through a small door in the cowling, with a safety back-up in the form of a =93barbers pole=94 and a light in the cockpit. =D8 Then, in order to stop any oil that might be in the crank shaft draining down to the cylinders, there was a white mark in the gearbox, visible through the =93window=94 and when the mark lined up, then the crank shaft was in its highest position, and so oil would not drain down into it and then into the cylinders. =D8 Sergio made a few, and indeed we fitted them to several Sukhois. Generally worked well. =D8 As I recollect it was simply a thick Perspex disc, with a metal reinforcement around the rim, using the same three bolt holes as the existing metal cover. =D8 In passing the existence of the cover is an easy way to identify a Series 2 engine. If the 18T uses the same battery box as a lot of other Russian stuff... whi ch is to say the SAM-28 batteries... take a look at how Oddessy PC-925 batt eries might fit in your box. We've used them in a variety of things and th ey fit perfectly... you just have to go to a welding shop and have the copp er cable to put them in series made up out of some thick wire. Golf cart s hops can make them=2C too. I was speaking to Doug Sapp today and he was looking for a manual for th M462F engine. I remembered that I have one in English. I am going to make a copy for him. If anyone else wants one let me know and have Staples run off some more. It is about 85 pages and several are fold out 11 x 17 size with the diagrams, so it will be about $45 or so per copy. I may have the manuals for the V520 propeller as well. I know I have copies of all the service bulletins for the Z37, V520 and M462RF in Czech language as well. There was a woman from China on the list offering parts for the CJ and Housai engines. I would like to contact her about making exhaust valves for the M14P. George Coy CAS Ltd. 714 Airport Rd. I have not yet confirmed that observation. It is at this time just that - an observation. If correct the only readily available Western propellor would be the Hamilton Standard 2B20. However there should be Avia Propellor models in the Czech Republic designed for that engine. I think MTV9 requires a flanged crank shaft, the M462RF is a splinded shaft motor. The spline being slightly larger in dia than that used on the HS6A 285 hp engine.
