Good, properly-updated anti-virus should have caught this. I don't know the extent
of the infection nor the characteristics of this particular worm/trojan/virus
so I can't comment further. But many of the newer viruses are pretty clever
about co-opting the anti-virus software and the OS in order to make themselves
invisible, so that even if you do a scan, nothing is found.
The safe way is to boot the system from a separate disk that has the anti-virus
program on it and then run the anti-virus against the infected disk that way.
This ensures that the OS and anti-virus haven't already be compromised by the
virus.
