Doc,
Remember that the new 8130.2G and its recent deviation waiver do NOT apply
to any aircraft that already has an AW cert and ops limits. You conduct you
r flying according to your previously approved ops limits. they are on file
with the FAA in DC. If you ask your FSDO to make a change to them, then yo
u are open to having a whole set of new ops limits issued under the new ord
er.

All aircraft operate under the Operating Limitations that are current
for the aircraft regardless of when they were issued. Therefore, if the
OL's presently in the aircraft have never been updated to remove the 300
nm proficiency area, that limitation remains in force for the aircraft
until the OL's are reissued. If you want to remove the 300 NM
proficiency area, a new set of OL's must be issued for the aircraft by
your FSDO. There is no "automatic" or "by default" removal of the
limitation.

I've enjoyed scanning through this document....especially at 4110.e. Group 5
aircraft specs. In the "typical aircraft" for this group, the examples
include the Fairey Rotodyne.
It struck me that this is a perfect example of a choice made by a bureaucrat
without much of an idea of what goes on in the real world. Reason: the
Fairey Rotodyne was a large prototype gyroplane capable of carrying 50+
passengers. It had two large turboprop engines mounted on stub wings but
proved to be incredibly noisy because it also had rotor tip mounted jet
engines; the project was canceled somewhere around 1960-61 and the sole
example was scrapped.
Pretty unlikely that a Fairey Rotodyne would show up to be certified in
Group 5, I think.

That is true with the exception of having the 300 mile limit removed.
The rules concerning having that removed specifically state that no
other operating limitations are to be changed. I've done this to both
of my Experimental Exhibition aircraft.

A new set of Operating Limitations do indeed have to be issued, but they
are not allowed to change any of them other than to remove the 300 NM
limitation. Just adding to what you already said Dennis. You are 100%
correct, as usual.

Hello all, recently the front oil temp gauge shot off the scale and
continues to do so , as you switch the instruments on, I swapped the sensors
over at the base of the oil feed pipe ,and the problem relocated to the
rear cockpit panel.
Is there any information on the resistance value of the sensor? Can we find
a replacement unit from commercially available thermo couples?
Many thanks
