'Getting dangerously-close to having an airworthy Yak 52. Ailerons & Rudder seem normal in feel, but elevator has just the slightest bit (barely perceptible) of play in it that would appear to emanate from the bellcrank / forward-reaching torque tube attachment in the rear cockpit. My question is: is any play normal? If not, is it common for this area to loosen up and require attention? Thank you all! style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline; ">http://www.matronics.co m/Navigator?Yak-List blue; text-decoration: underline; ">http://forums.matronics.com style="color: blue; text-decoration: underline; ">http://www.matronics.co m/contribution et="_blank">http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-Listtp://forums.matron ics.com_blank">http://www.matronics.com/contribution = )

Where one man's "early perceptible" may be another man's "looser than shit". I once had that demonstrated to me while looking over an Extra 300. I'd noticed a 1/16" slop in the aileron which I thought was quite acceptable, however the Extra test pilot Doug Vada said that it was totally unacceptable. Also you have to take into account if the system is control cables or push rods. You usually find slop in control cables. In any case remove as much of it as you can, but in every case check the aircraft maintenance manual for limits. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby In a message dated 2/7/2012 8:58:26 A.M. Press in New Zealand is saying the CAA suspects a screwdriver may have caused the crash. Very sad incident: http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/6356651/Screwdriver-may-have-caused-Yak-52-crash Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=365818#365818
