'Getting dangerously-close to having an airworthy Yak 52. Ailerons &
Rudder seem normal in feel, but elevator has just the slightest bit
(barely perceptible) of play in it that would appear to emanate from the
bellcrank / forward-reaching torque tube attachment in the rear cockpit.
My question is: is any play normal? If not, is it common for this area to
loosen up and require attention? Thank you all!

Where one man's "early perceptible" may be another man's "looser than
shit". I once had that demonstrated to me while looking over an Extra 300.
I'd noticed a 1/16" slop in the aileron which I thought was quite acceptable,
however the Extra test pilot Doug Vada said that it was totally
unacceptable. Also you have to take into account if the system is control cables
or
push rods. You usually find slop in control cables. In any case remove as
much of it as you can, but in every case check the aircraft maintenance
manual for limits.
