Subject: | Re: Radio Noise CJ6 |
Guys, I was able to eliminate the back ground noise from my radio
transmission. And the winner is-------Brian Lloyd!! The headphones were
grounded to the airframe & when I fixed that, the noise went away. Thanks
to all for your help.

Give them a try. I used them to replace all of the push / pull cables
in a custom CJ.

Subject: | Re: CJ Trim Cable replacement |
Hi Gil;
Sorry for the delay, been tied up with other less interesting but
necessary things lately. Some other CJ owners have asked for trim cable
info as well but since I don=99t have all the email addresses I
will cc to the yak-list.
There is no magic bullet for cable replacement. I will describe the
system I have used and the try to adapt it to your situation with a
failed cable and the resultant rats-nest.
1. There are two cables, one forward & one aft, which act as one
continuous cable. We will regard it as two cables, Nose Up and Nose
Down. Determine at each drum, each pulley station and the indicator
micro switch which cable is moving forward for Aircraft Nose Up (trim
tab down). Identify that cable with masking tape at each location.
Number locations front to aft starting with the forward drum.
2. Take photos of each identified location for reference.
3. Make notes for each location describing the positioning of the Nose
Up cable whether inboard or outboard on the drum, number of turns on the
drum, using an inb=99d. or outb=99d pulley and note how the
cables cross from the rear drum.
Both CJ=99s I have replaced trim cables on were early models with
the original 2 mm cable. I did not use the later Chinese 1 mm cable
choosing instead to use AN/MS standard 1/16=9D(1.6 mm) 7X19 cable
which is standard for Western aircraft trim systems and possibly more
flexible. This introduces the problem of the lead slug or swaged ball
for micro-switch actuation. I assume you will use the stock cable,
which I expect Doug can supply, so that will not be a problem. The lead
slug should be in place on the new cable but one end of each cable would
be unfinished in order to install through the drum. I don=99t
know how to install the end fitting since, as far as I know, there is no
Nico-Press or other tooling available for a 1 mm cable. Check with
Doug.
In your situation it will be difficult to identify cable & pulley
references. I had 6 or 7 photos but it appears I must have deleted
some, I can find only 3 which I will attach. There is a drawing in
the CJ6 Overhaul Manual of the system but this manual has never been
translated so the text is useless. I will get the manual from the
hangar tomorrow and make a copy of the sketch for you.
Cheers;
Walt
