For the mathematicians amongst you there were thus 20 Shillings in every 1.00..... As there were 4 Farthings to each Old Penny there were 960 Farthings to each 1.00 and to everybody's relief Farthings were withdrawn from UK circulation in 1960. Decimalisation was well over due by then but we had to wait another 12 years for it !
