G'Day Dennis,
Thanks for that and I shall forward it to my mate.
Rhonda and Monty are champions.
I bought a set of the 3 ring pistons for my engine.
And fitted the Richard Goode supercharger gears.
Naturally we did the vales, seats and only exhaust guides.
What a nightmare grinding the exhaust seats as the buggers are bloody hard.
Anyway all done and really came up good.
Thanks again and cheers,
Chris.

Chris,'
You should contact Barrett Precision Engines in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I
guarantee you they will have the answers you need. 918-835-1089.
Outstanding US overhaul shop. They have developed and have running a
beautiful coil-over electronic ignition (one coil per spark plug) and fuel
injection setup for the M14.
Most likely you will speak to Rhonda first. Ask Rhonda if you can discuss
some technical stuff with either Monte Barrett or Allen Barrett. They will
also have cylinders for exchange. Rhonda's email address is
Rhonda@BPAENGINES.com.

G'Day All,
Can I please have some input re Ivor's questions.
I have done all of my valves, intake and exhaust and used some grinding
wheels (Dressed the angles with a diamond tip stone grinder in the lathe.
One hell of a mess) and made some various size mandrels for both intake and
exhaust to suite the slight differences of the guides.
I found the exhaust seats to be extremely hard and went by the angles in the
manual.
Hey Chris,
Do you know or could you find out if anyone knows what the M14P's factory
exhaust valve face and exhaust valve seat angles should be ?
Also, please ask if operators have had their exhaust valve seats re-cut and
if so, did they encounter difficulty cutting the seat due to the hardness ?
After hearing about your difficulties, I am contemplating making a diamond
impregnated dressing stone for this task.
Any takers ?
Is there an exchange service for overhauled cylinders ?
I have a mate who requires 3 urgently. I guess when the leakage exceeds the
starting air flow, you have to either fit an electric start or FIX the
problem, eh ?
Cheers,

I'm looking for feedback from folks with Electronic Ignition installed in their
Yak or CJ as part of research for an article I'm doing for the Red Alert. Already
been in contact with the folks at Barrett and they were very forthcoming
with details.
So far no info on the Blackwell system though I've been told that some of the Arizona
CJ's have his setup installed. Owner/operator feedback is what I'm looking
for. Maybe someone will have something up at Oshkosh. Please contact me if
you have anything you can share.
Incidentally, Magneto prices have been soaring lately if anyone missed it.

Thanks for the kind words Barry. It has been 24 years since I flew
competitions and air shows. That makes me ....very rusty.... so I will take
all the help I can get. Thank you all for the input. I am on my way to the
airport to see if I can sort this out and then clean up the oily mess I
made. Gord

Hi George.
I am sure a lot of us would like to see the performance chart you mentioned.
Any chance of posting the scan. If not, could you please email me a copy to
coop@cj6.ca Thanks in advance.

Yes, they came through all right. Thank you. Are you sure these numbers are
valid for the Huosai?
The problem with engine power output calculation/graphs is that they don't
directly translate into actual performance of the aircraft. Propeller
efficiency plays a big part in translating hp into thrust and that changes
with RPM, density, TAS, etc. So knowing just how much HP the engine is
making is less useful than it might first seem.
I don't know about the rest of you but I tend to fly using only a few
different power settings at only a few different altitudes. It is pretty
easy to check the performance at those settings and a few around it (you
might change RPM) and then compare TAS and fuel consumption to see what
works best. You will also get good real-world performance data for YOUR
airplane. Book numbers are useful in order to figure out if your airplane
is doing something grossly wrong but I can just about guarantee that they
aren't the numbers for your airplane.
Of course, loading has an effect as well. It is useful to check performance
at different standard loadings.

My sources say that the Housai engine is identical to the RussianAI14RA.
Probably originally license built.

OK, thanks.
Do we need to start the, "The CJ6A is/is-not a copy of the Yak," thread
again? I haven't seen that for awhile. ;-)

The AI14RA is virtually identical to the Huosai 6. As far as I know the
only difference is the carburettor adaptor. It is not identical to the
Huosai 6A.
