Has anyone tackled this project? I have heard bits and pieces of advice. Has anyone done a write up on this project? I have heard it is essential to build a jig. Does anyone have pictures of what they used? Thanks ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 04:39:00 AM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Re: CJ-6 canopy seals From: "Rich Langer" Harv, I would very much like to know the part number from Woolies for the replacement canopy seal. Thanks Rich Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=374522#374522 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 07:00:02 AM PST US From: "Bradly Banks" Subject: Yak-List: Conclusion to the Engine out question Hello All, I have finally been able to conclude the reason for the forced landing of ZU-CWJ here are the pics The oil pump and Fuel pump are driven of the accessory bevel gear at the back of the engine, this drive shaft has 2 bevel gears and is held in place by a bronze bush. This bush sets up the lash on the main bevel gear and (please correct me here) the tacho drive too. In the pics you will see that the Bronze bush has been polished where the Locking plate has been vibrating , the lock tabs are all up as should be but they have now been worn oval and have split allowing the 2 nuts to "jump" flats . This in turn gradually increased the lash on the main bevel drive (creating a faint whine audible off the adjacent hanger doors on idle or shut down.) Finally the nuts escaped their locking tabs and as we removed the oil pump assembly the one nut dropped into the drip tray. The other was 1 turn from following the first. Conclusion : The loosening of the 2 nuts created a gap in the lash where the drive gear could no longer drive the driven gear and as a result the oil and fuel pump ceased to turn thus the engine ran out of fuel. It is not difficult to inspect the retaining nuts , but it will require the removal of the oil pump / fuel pump assembly. Hope this will help Final thought : The contributors to this forum were unanimously correct that the engine must have run out of fuel and I'm encouraged to see the vast amount of collective knowledge we have to draw on. "Yak engines don't just stop", was the AME's first words to me during the recovery , I agree with him they are tough and reliable , no matter how you look at it ,when the fuel runs out, that engine isn't gonna run!
