Subject: | Re: Is there an over-priming hydraulic lock monster? |
Thank you everyone who replied
to my posting.
Please keep in mind that the CJ has a
different fuel system compared to the Yak.
I usually prime 2 to 3 times and in the
winter 4 to 5 times. But on a hot summer
day sometimes it is hard to tell if one is
pumping air or fuel, over-priming could
happen even to the most experienced pilot.
After priming I open my manifold drain
valve and watch some fuel dripping out.
Then I close it, get in the plane and while
pushing the starter button I prime one
more shot while the prop is turning - the
engine springs to life.
Thanks again.
cheers
Elmar

Here is a look at a prototype of a distributor cap I'm developing. It is designed
to work with automotive wire on either a standard magneto or a magneto converted
to Electronic Ignition. This configuration secures spiro-wrapped wire more
securely than screwing a pin through it with the stock cap. It also has wider
contacts for a slightly longer firing time to facilitate the multiple spark
feature in EI.
Notice that 1 piece replaces both cap and cover. Larger 10mm wire for high energy
systems can be used if desired.
See it at Oshkosh, I'll bring it up for the maintenance seminar.

Guys,
Has anybody removed or swapped the antenna on a Yak52??
Mine is broken and completely corroded so needs to be replaced.
If I want to remove it, it means damaging the paint and I was wondering if
only the radiator could be removed rather than the whole assembly??
Pictures or drawings would be appreciated!
Thanks!

The stock Russian antenna has a small matching network inside. If you want to
go to the effort, the radiator can be replaced. It is actually a threaded tapered
rod. The best bet would be to ask around and see if you can find an old
one that someone removed that you can just thread in and be done.
Personally, I took the antenna off, then drilled the original plate for a more
modern antenna and mounted it on the same plate. Doing it this way you really
should not notice any damage to your paint? In any case, you would have to slice
around the mounting plate so you could remove it. I think I have one that
I could take pictures of for you, but it would take a few days since I am currently
not home. If anyone else has pictures, I am sure that would help you
much better than this email.
