I was recently at an air-show; my CJ staged on the grass next to three Harvards that were giving flights etc. I always assumed that any air-show attendee would be enthusiastic about all planes. What amazed me however, where the number of stupid Chinese plane I wouldnt effin fly in that effin plane if you paid me comments. Is this normal or simply the result of where I live :-) Has anyone else experienced remarks like these? Should I hurry up and paint roundels on it before someone blows it up??

I've never had that reaction to our CJ, Philip, at least not within earshot. People tend to be curious and a bit bemused. We're all aware, however, that we occupy the back row against the fence at OSH. We're at the bottom of the warbird pecking order in the minds of many. That view tends to change when the cost of ownership gets explored. In a free country, folks are entitled to be just as stupid as they choose. Screw 'em! :0) ...Blitz Sent from my iPhone On Jul 21, 2012, at 7:51 AM, Philip Nicholson <pednicholson@gmail.com> wrote: > > I was recently at an air-show; my CJ staged on the grass next to three > Harvards that were giving flights etc. > I always assumed that any air-show attendee would be enthusiastic > about all planes. I believe that such feelings are universal, as I have heard the same comments from people who owns Yak's and CJ's concerning those that fly Cessna "Spam Cans". Continues with people who fly formation and those that do not. And those that fly aerobatics and those that do not. Pretty much human nature. I'd love to own a T-6, (or Harvard) and have approached owners to ask questions and have sometimes been treated pretty darn poorly. Of course it helps to know I can spank their butt in a dogfight. :-) This even continues to guys I see fly to a big air show in "whatever" and are there only for the free gas, and giving "media rides". Once that is over with, they zoom out in formation rather than stay for the "Static Display" portion. Lots of ego involved and if you stop and think about it, some jealousy too! You're airplane can do just about everything theirs can and much more cheaply. Hence their comments. Thick skin, BIG SMILE, ignore it. Good advice, hard to do...... best of luck. Phil; You must be located somewhere in the far East like maybe Ontario, where ignorance is bliss. You need to move to BC where CJ's and Harvards get along just fine. We all want to feel superior somehow and doing it by superficialities is simpler than doing it by substance. The people of competence who really matter won't talk that way and you will enjoy their company. Every airplane presents its own unique challenges to fly to its limits, even the lowly C-150. Kudos to the person who recognizes this and steps up to the challenge.
