This is a great instrument and works very well. That said, it works by connecting to the P leads of both mags. Every person that has done this install themselves (that I know) has usually ended up with increased radio noise from P lead EM radiation. Be very mindful of this and use the very best in shielded wiring and installation procedures to avoid radio EMI issues with this device. I agree, it's a great instrument. But my question is about the difference between engine and prop speeds and the limits on the tachometer. Are those limits corrected for the difference? Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=380312#380312

Mike, The Horizon tach ranges can be set to ANY specification you want by the manufacturer before delivery. IE: If the max engine RPM is 2900, the tach red light can be programmed to come on at red line. The other parameters, like 82% (2378 RPM) can also be pre programmed. The original Russian tach, even though it reads in %, was engine RPM, not prop RPM. The prop RPM is determined by the nose case gear ratio. In the case of the M14P, it is .658. So in other words, no matter what the engine RPM is, the prop always runs at 2/3 the speed of the engine. All you do is phone Horizon and tell them what parameters you want programmed into the tach and they will program it before delivery. You will determine the limits on the Tach by the programming. Thanks Dennis. Once again you come thru with the answer. I guess I need to look up the limits of the V530 and double check what is already programmed on my Horizon tach. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=380323#380323

The V530 limits are your engine RPM limits, which according to the manual is 2950 RPM. I prefer to use 2900 though. A. Fellow Yak/CJ Drivers, I attended Osh again this year and although I enjoy much of the event, it is not as enjoyable as it has been in the past. From 1998 through just a few years ago, the YPC/RPA held a clinic at MTW (Manatowoc, WI) prior to Osh and continued to host events at MTW during Osh. Many folks flew over to Osh each day for the mass formation, airshow, shopping, booths, forums, etc. I have to say it was great hanging out with 20-40 fellow flyers and their wives/girlfriends/GiBs etc. Please don't bring BOTH a wife and a girlfriend. Attending Osh this year wasn't the same as people spread out and didn't get together every day. In discussing this with others who attended and didn't attend Osh this year, there was much interest in MTW. Therefore, I'm going to organize a North Central MTW Clinic during Osh. It is posted the RPA event website. Please let me know if you are interested, not interested, willing to help, just want to show up and fly, etc. I will try and have the following during the event: Airboss/GroundBoss for organizing flights, training, etc. Standard Formation flights Tactical Formation Flights Briefing facilities (EAA hanger?) Water Acro Box Information for local hotels and restaurants Fuel discount (I'll work on it) Oil Discount (I'll work on it) Suggestions? Thoughts? Bear

After we abandoned MTW, some Yankee Imperialist Dogs in T-34's moved in and claimed what we built. West Bend is available, we were there before and it's a lot closer to Oshkosh. Their EAA chapter has a great facility there. Driving to/from is a lot quicker too when weather closes in. Motels cheaper, etc. Craig Payne

Dead Bear, Will be happy to help out with check rides or instruction any place you dec ide. However Payne is correct about the T-34 group taking over MTW. Chevey & I had to land there Sat the 21st and there were few tiedown spots left. The next morning 3 more flights came in as we were departing for OSH. The EAA group there (God bless them) looked like they hand their hands full. I have no idea if the T-34 folks are planning same next year, but the group is starting to make a come back in activity, alt hough they did not fly in any numbers during the show.
