There seems to be a good amount of expertise on this list in regards to ele ctronics, so I figured I'd ask. I have a GoPro camera (3.5mm stereo mic input) that I want to get sound int o from the plane's audio system. Is there a y cable that can be plugged int o a plane's =BC" headphone jack that will give me a female =BC" jack and a 3.5mm female? I would think that this cable would somehow have to change th e impedance to the 3.5mm jack, but that's where my knowledge stops. I was a lso thinking if something like this existed, what about using normal stereo earbuds under my helmet plugged into this cable rather than purchasing CEP . Does anyone know how CEP is able to make this work? Looks like they are c onnecting directly to the existing earphones in the helmet.

Hi Tom, =C2- CEP's are so cheap and available on e-bay that shouldn't use something else , also keep in mind that if your earbuds fail in flight you will not be abl e to listen the helment speakers. There is an audio cable section in aircra ft spruce: =C2- http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/av/headsetx_adapters_taperecorder.html =C2- Then again just play with it on the ground long and behold before you take into the air you don't want to have communications malfunction in the air. =C2- If you are flying a 2 seater, just put an inxepensive MP3 recorder attahced to the rear headset jack. you can use software to supperimpose the sound, plus most people prefer music for extended period of the video pepper for t he imporatant moments when you want to get things across like your engine s tart, radio calls and some engine full power climbs(or dives). =C2- Good luck. --- On Fri, 8/31/12, Thomas Geoghegan <thomasg@infosysnetworks.com> wrote: From: Thomas Geoghegan <thomasg@infosysnetworks.com> Subject: Yak-List: Aircraft Audio sound to a Camera or earbuds? Get a standard 1/4" 'Y' cable that will work with your headphone and then an adaptor cable that has an 1/4" plug on one end and an 1/8" plug on the other. You will not need impedance matching but it is possible that the headphone signal will overload the mic input of the GoPro. You will just have to try it out. It is is distorted and "crackly" then you need to reduce the signal level. You may find a cable that has a 20dB pad in it and that would solve the problem . -- Brian Lloyd, WB6RQN/J79BPL 3191 Western Dr. Cameron Park, CA 95682 brian@lloyd.com +1.767.617.1365 (Dominica) +1.916.877.5067 (USA)

An hour ago I opened the hangar doors to find chaos. Chairs scattered. Boarding ladder on its side eight feet from the Nanchang. Other stuff hither and yon. Yellow scuba tank on its side on the opposite side of the hangar from where it's stands. Then the big discovery - a 3" hole punched in the belly of the aircraft. Your right. The freshly filled scuba tank had fallen over and become a missile. Dave King's research scientist wife, Inge, observed, "That's why those things are chained to a wall in the lab." Lesson learned too late for me, but not for you. Blitz Fox 415-307-2405

That sucks. When I was a kid, I remember working with my dad when acetylene tank got knocked over and hit just right. The valve got busted off and the tank went through a concrete wall, into the street and struck a car driving down the road. Just imagine being in front of that when it happened. -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Byron Fox Sent: Friday, August 31, 2012 3:36 PM Subject: Yak-List: SAM strike in the hangar An hour ago I opened the hangar doors to find chaos. With my GoPro I use a lapel mic that has it's own battery and insert inside the earphone of my headset. The plug end plugs directly into the camera and provides excellent audio. Pics up all intercom and radio talk. When the camera is on it's recording (just don't forget to turn the lapel mic on also - ask me how I know). Works great. With all that shaken going on out there, you'll need to chain yourself to the wall. Now down here in Florida, its still warm, with a sea breeze, and nothing 'under foot' to shake. Plus the ground is flat, but that's what you get living on the moving edge of a tectonic plate. You do know PHX will have beach front soon? Well you can tell folks that patch over that hole, was - - - - battle damage. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby In a message dated 8/31/2012 3:39:09 P.M.
