I did a test several years ago before our friends in the UK had new diaphragms fabricated. I 'borrowed' a diaphragm from Doug and tried it. What I found was some of the holes in the M14 diaphragm do not exist in the Housai diaphragm. Dennis A. All one had to do is transfer the disk from the old diaphragm to the new one. A. Whether you decide to use Mogas or Avgas (or both), the carburetor diaphragm 'have a life' [Laughing] ... and it will eventually need replacing. Should be inspected on a regular basis ... or like some people do ... wait until carburator starts dripping after shut-down. http://www.airliners.net/photo/2167817/L/ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=385186#385186 ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 06:52:16 AM PST US From: Thomas McKeon Subject: RE: Yak-List: Re: CJ-6 Engine trouble After some more runups and a little more reading I do believe it is the car burator diaphram. Had a little too much of airplanes going over VNE and losing trim tabs in the last few years... It happened again to another airplane at Reno this year. Pappy's point remains, check the trim tabs carefully, they prone to getting smacked back there. Compare the oil temp limits in the W to the "book" and they are way off in the ones I flew. Same with ASI That ASI says your VNE is 450KmPH which is nearly 100KmPH more than the VNE for a Yak 52. Note the correct Yak VNE is 223mph which corresponds to the beginning of that ASI Yellow Arc. Yak 52 Tech Description says 360 Yak 52TW Tech Description says 360 Yak 52TW Flight Manual says 420 That installed Airspeed says 450 Beware translations in Yaks YMMV.. Kind of like a T-28 being pushed above 300 kts. Redline was 340 as I recall. Joining the 300 Knot Club was where I first heard the saying "Shakin' like a dog shittin' peach seeds". Just because the gauge says you "can", doesn't necessarily mean you "should" go there.
