Today in church each member was asked to stand and recognize those in
their family who were veterans. We are not a large congregation and is
"advanced in years" as a group. So it was not surprising that everyone ha
d
someone in their family would been in the military. For me it was my great
,
great, grandfather Morgan who served in the 25th South Carolina and my fat
her a
World War II veteran in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific. Two uncles,
both wounded during the D-Day invasion and another uncle participated in b
oth
the Sicily, Anzio and Market Garden operations. And then myself in the
United States Army. Dede's family fought as guerrillas in the Philippine
s
and the U.S. Army in Philippines plus her brothers were in the Navy. Ther
e
were a number of people whose grandchildren are serving now. While World
War II had the greatest participation, right now not quite 1% of American
citizens serve in the military. There is only one World War II veteran
left in our church, two from the Korean War, four or five in the Vietnam W
ar.
They are a dying breed, part of the greatest generation that made America
great. That gave more and took less from its fellow citizens. Wouldn't
it be nice if 50% of the electorate would have had that same love of
country.
Veterans Day not over. This afternoon myself, =9CPod=9D
=9CSoups=9D and a AT-6
guy flew a formation over a VA home near Lady Lakes in central Florida. Af
ter
a couple passes in different formations, we then did the =9CMissing
Man=9D
pass. Our ground spotter said our passes =9Cperfect, just listen
=9D. She held
the mike open and we could hear the cheers in the back ground. It was nice
being appreciated by those you appreciate so much. I had a little difficul
ty
holding formation because of something in my eyes.
Remember them.

Thanks to all for the "right on point" advises provided- was able to
remove the exhaust after spraying, then heating the collar with a propane
torch. Now- I can't tighten it up because the insert is rotating - the
little pins that were holding it seem to be missing. Looking for options.
Thanks again!
