Chris & Ray, I have a Yak 52W that had the UMA tach sender unit. It was
a continuing problem. UMA was helpful in providing replacement senders,
but they never lasted. I installed a Horizon electronic tach. It has
proven to be a wonderful instrument. As a bonus, it can give an early
warning of weak aircraft batteries; if the tach switches off and on when
the fuel transfer pumps are turned on, the batteries are low. Happy New
Year, Mike Roehr

The actual issue is the wire in the pin connection plug vibrates and breaks loose
giving a intermittent connection. If you plug it in and let the wire hang
off the sender the engine vibration will shake it until it weakens and break is
internally in the plug. If you use a cushioned tie wraps around the connector
and keep the whip saw effect from shaking it to death you will not have a issue.
Sometimes you can replace the sender and in doing so you temporarily move
the wire on the end of the plug making a new connection until it moves again
at a later date and then thinking it's the sender buy a new one and start the
process all over again. my original sender now has 300 hours on it , no issues
yet.

Does anyone have a link to a site that sells LED bulbs to replace the 7mm Ba7s
bulbs in the Yak's Landing gear/flap indicator lights?
The only ones I can find are 12 volt, or are on sites where you have to order hundreds
of bulbs at a time from a factory in China.
Thanks,
Steve Dalton

Steve,
If you can't find the LED's, here's a link to direct replacement bulbs.

I don't know about the Cj but I ordered these for my Yak and they didn't quite
fit in the sockets. I ended up giving a box of them away. I had to sand the bulb
down so I said screw it and ordered them from Jill.

I don't have them in front of me but I remember they say CEC on the box and ordered
them some time ago when you posted this information before.
They were for the flap and gear indicators. Metric size bulbs. Very close to
fitting just not close enough for the Yak.

Try Parts Plus or Auto Zone parts store. Ask for the indicator bulbs that they
supply to the fire departments. Those are 24 volt. Take one with you so they can
compare it.

I think these are the ones I run in my CJ... I had bought from Newark
originally I think... but these look the same from what I remember.
Don't know if they fit in a Yak though.

I'm running the White ones in the "Green" sockets and the Red ones in
the "Red" sockets....(the Green LEDs in the Green sockets were much too
dark in daylight viewing with sunglasses on...)
Not surprisingly...I've had the same LEDs in since '04.

Here's where I got mine:

There's month lead time and as I remember I had to file the soldering tit
on the side to make them fit easily.
Cheers!

Dave, thanks for the link. However, it is for 9mm bulbs, which I guess fits a CJ.
The Yak takes 7mm bulbs...Ba7s bulbs.
Cliff, Thanks for your link also. I had already found it, but the minimum order
is 25 bulbs!!
Anybody want to split an order for 25 white LED's?? :)
