Subject: | Re: Whirlwind propellor 400c |
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
A prop is a 'major change' as indicated in your opspecs.
No letter to FAA.
Two entries in Logbook along with 'recertification' (by you) of your
aircraft.
*Removed OLD PROP from airframe and installed NEW PROP (Use serial numbers
if available) .
Aircraft in phase I operation .
Signed ____Joe Aviator__*
Second entry after your 5 hour flight testing phase.
*I certify that the prescribed flight test hours have been completed and
the aircraft is controllable throughout its normal range of speeds and
throughout all maneuvers to be executed, has no hazardous operating
characteristics or design features, and is safe for operation . The flight
test was completed under the following conditions: maximum operating weight
9,999lbs, maximum demonstrated airspeed 800 MPH, and minimum demonstrated
stall speed: 200 MPH .
Aircraft in phase II operation .

That should do it, right folks? (Please, again, correct me if I'm wrong)

Subject: | CJ fuel system bypass line question |
As you probably all know in a Nanchang there
is a bypass line parallel to the fuel check-valve
and wobble pump (please see attached picture).
I was always under the impression that the
function of above mentioned line is to prevent
over-pressurizing of the fuel system by the
use of the manual wobble pump.
Any opinion on this subject is highly appreciated.
cheers
Elmar

I've learned a lot this week=2C mostly how little I really know even after
1=2C400 hours in type.
If you over-fill your oil system=2C your motor will barf out the excess. I
n a Chang=2C this will be down the port (that's "left" for you Air Force gu
ys) side of the aircraft. Still=2C there will be Too Much Oil remaining an
d a radial engine is the finest high-powered eggbeater known to man. Oil g
ets on the back of the cylinders=2C gets thrown up onto the rods=2C goes wh
o-knows-where-else and pretty soon it's foam-o-rama.
Over-filling the oil system NOT RECOMMENDED. Dennis says that 13 liters is
plenty.
The sump system holds more than a liter of oil. If you haven't flown in a
week or two=2C the sump is probably full and you have more oil than you thi
nk.
The oil pump works both ways. Since the "out" side has less resistance tha
n the "in" side=2C running the engine at high RPM drains the sump. One of
the reasons to run the engine up for a bit after you taxi in is to drain th
e sump.
To recap: Excess oil gets turned to foam=2C and since the oil temp gauge is
n't designed to read "foam temperature" you'll see a drop in oil temp... it
dropped from 50C to 20C in about 5 minutes on me. Since foam compresses
=2C the oil pressure will drop from the usual ~6 Kg/cm2 to ~4.5 Kg/cm2 in t
he same 5 minutes. This was about 20 minutes into a flight at cruise.
I drained the oil=2C washed the screen and didn't find any metal... so it a
ppears that I've dodged the proverbial bullet.
And speaking of which=2C and since the Yak-List guys are the most awesomest
=2C I will also share my super-secret trick for finding inexpensive ammo=2C
something I also learned this week.
If you install the Wal*Mart App on your smart phone=2C you have access to t
he world's largest and best real-time inventory control system. If you sea
rch for 22LR or 9mm=2C then "check availability" you will get a list of all
the stores within 20 miles and what they've got Right Now. Most of these
will say "Out of Stock" but if you check at odd times and hustle over when
it says "In Stock" ("Low Inventory" doesn't seem to work too well) you've g
ot a real good chance of picking up 3 boxes of what you're looking for. Th
at can be 300 rounds of 9mm =2C which Doesn't Suck. Always The Low Price -
WM hasn't jacked their prices as much as everybody else.
Safe Flying and Happy Hunting=2C
