As one of the "two Russians who stopped by to buy some parts", unless there was
another pair of pilots with Russian accent who flew to rural Pennsylvania recently
to get some parts for the YAK, I can assure you that the spar situation
was not even discussed. We were pressed on time as the seller was in a hurry to
drive us back to the airport. And even if it was, the person I was with, another
"Russian" who has been flying the YAKs for 30 years, would be definitely
able to identify heavy spar from the original.
Joe (I am referring to the eBay seller), if you're reading this forum, why don't
you come forward and explain this misunderstanding.
The YAK was definitely cared for before the crash- Good job Dale. Too bad to see
it's gone.
All the best,
Serge

I was reading about V530 prop balance with interest.
My balance experience is :
Our delicated and advanced GT blade design with a perfect static balance then refinished
with a dynamic balance makes the V530 prop running very very smooth.
Please note the hub without spinner created alot of turbolence !
This recent video might interest you,Spanish 52 that installed GT blades and our
hub with OH balance service.

Subject: | Fwd: Pacific Aviation Museum's Needs Restoration Manager |
Here's a great job for a talented guy. This is a great little museum on
Ford Island in Pearl Harbor.
---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Ken DeHoff <khdehoff@gmail.com>
Subject: Pacific Aviation Museum's Needs Restoration Manager
*Aloha,*
We are looking for a new Restoration Manager. This is a very important
position with the Pacific Aviation Museum, leading staff and volunteers, in
restoring and maintaining aircraft coming to the Museum, directing all
activities in the historic Ted Shealy Restoration Shop. This position
reports to the Curator.
Experience is key to this position, beyond education. A successful
candidate must be ready to direct work that meets Museum quality standards,
understand metal stabilization and aircraft preservation in a highly
corrosive environment. You must be leader, able to plan, organize, train,
delegate, schedule and manage all aspects of aircraft restoration and
maintenance. You should have good contacts in the aviation industry, museum
and military sources for research data, parts and methods.
We are a static display Museum and nothing will ever fly again out of the
Pacific Aviation Museum, but we preserve the most famous aircraft that ever
flew in the Pacific. We work on everything from the early bi-planes to
high-tec jets. We have 41 aircraft on the ground and another 5 coming in
2013. The Boeing B-17E Swamp Ghost has just arrived - so knowledge of World
War II aircraft is a must. Experience in transporting, shipping, moving and
assembly all types of aircraft is a musts. Training in safety and hazardous
material is required. The position is also responsible for transporting,
shipping, moving and assembly aircraft from many locations around the world
to the Museum's site.
The Pacific Aviation Museum is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose
mission is to educate young and old of the stories of honor those aviators
and support personnel who protected freedom in the Pacific Theater. The
museum has hosted over 1,000,000,000 visitors since our opening in 2006. We
are funded and growing. We offer a competitive salary and benefit package.
Please send this along to any candidates you think might be interested.*
**Blue Skies,*
*Ken*

Subject: | Adding a CJ step (as supplied by Doug Sapp) to a Yak 52 |
Hi Folks. When I bought my 1982 model Yak 52, it did not have a step.
It did not bother me much at first, but the convenience of a permanently
mounted step became appealing after a while.
I am sure there are many solutions to the problem, but this is what we
did. My buddy Warren gave me his old CJ step and I had a local
machinist manufacture custom aluminum attachment brackets.
We obtained a nice strong aluminum plate that we attached to the wing
undersurface by carefully de-rivetting the rivet line along a rib and
the trailing edge. The pictures show the work a lot better than I Can
describe.
I post this here simply for info and hope that yak 52 pilots will find
it interesting. The step is supplied by Doug Sapp. If anyone would
like to copy our install, please contact me off list.
I will happily put you in touch with the machinist here in Mesa, Arizona
if you want the brackets. I think my buddy also made a template of the
aluminum plate we installed.
The first pic shows the attached step. We did not bother to remove the
existing hooks that are used for the temporary step. That was my
personal preference.
IMG_2002
Pic shows undersurface of wing, aluminum plate and the brackets we had
specially made. The four brackets cost $140.
The machinist did an incredible job. The trailing edge bracket has a
indent so that it marries with the reinforced wing trailing edge and the
new aluminum plate.
IMG_2008
A view of the entire installation. It is STRONG and neat. I still need
to paint it, but there you go.

Hi Serge, Well I do have the chain of email he sent me when I tried to correct
him. I quoted him verbatim your welcome to see them. I have no dog in this race
and he was using you to prove his point when he did not believe me. So there
you go. I will post a few photo's of the plane that will help others that
want to see what it looked like. I was there 3 min after it folded. One must
always remember to turn the air on.

You can place a piece of duck tape on the oil cooler grill about 2 inches wide
by 4 inches long. Don't go flying until you have run it up.

Subject: | yak 55 engine surge, in flight/ problem solved |
Thanks to all who provided input to help solve the problem. The problem was in
the carburetor. After removing the Fuel Valve Cover on the lower rear right side
of the carb, see figure 5, item 8 in the Carburetor maintenance manual for
location and look at figure 3. items 16 &17 as to whats inside. The spring,
jet and needle were covered with mineral deposits, blocking fuel flow and not
allowing the spring to function properly. Also this is a low point in the carb
and appears prone to collecting moisture. This aircraft had been sitting for
some time prior to sale and the present owner is flying it regularly. Have included
three photos.
