Subject: | Carb Heat Intake Tubes |
I'm looking for a set of carb heat intake tubes (attach to the airbox and fit around
the exhaust) for a CJ6
I have a set on order with Doug, but it's going to be a few months until they arrive.
Mine are cracked and unservicable. I'm looking for something to keep
me flying while I wait for new stainless steel ones.
Thanks

I've seen some nice mods using a very small "muff" on the exhaust and a modified
air box via scat tube.
Those "elephant ears" are a pain in the ass

btw, Stainless Steel What? Air intake horns? I think that would be WAY to heavy
as those things have very little support.

Kendal & Mark,
If the engine has been running, drain the oil, run again with clean,
straight mineral oil for 5 minutes to get splash oil on the internal parts.
It will stay on the steel parts far longer than compounded oil. The
original Russian tool kit has a grease gun-looking tool in it, that is used
to put preservative oil in the cylinders. (It can be a messy job.)
The 14mm dessicant plugs are a good idea and if you wrap it in a large
plastic bag, set a gallon of dessicant under the engine. Check the
dessicant on a periodic basis to see if the color has changed. If so, you
need to refresh the dessicant. It can be baked and reused. Obviously, if you
live in Florida or Wisconsin, you will need to change more frequently than I
do in Arizona where we think 25% humidity is awful.
Exhaust ports, carburetor intake and any other openings should be sealed.
If you don't mind the mess, you can also fog the outside of the engine.
Mark, thanks for the hot tip on the dessicant plugs! : )

Attached are two schematics. One is from the CJ manual. One is an incredibly well
done color coordinated version.
It seems to me the restrictor labeled #40 on the CJ manual drawing is in a different
location (nose gear side) than the restrictor located on the color version
(rear gear handle side)
Anyone know which is correct?

I'm finishing up modifying a new rudder for the CJ. The fabric is coming
away from the metal on the current rudder. So I purchased a new rudder and
am modifying it with electric trim.
Once it is on my CJ, I'll be selling my old rudder with electric trim and
new fabric (no paint). Any interest?
