Subject: | Systems / limitations written |
I am trying to come up with a systems / limitations written exam for a Yak
50. If anyone has one or one for a Yak 52 and could send it my way it would
be appreciated.
Thanks!

Troops,
Some times a problem has the simplest answer. I=99ve been having a
problem
with my smoke system for about a year. I didn=99t use it a lot becau
se it
dirtied up the bottom of my CJ so I was in no hurry to really fix it. But
lately with the sequestration, my co-hearts & I have been getting a lot of
request to do fly-bys for one function or another. Thus the need for smo
ke
now, and I started looking into it.
At first I thought it was the pump that had finally crapped out. The pump
was a un-repairable red-tagged 24v fuel transfer pump whose bearings were
going bad. It was cheap (like free) and perfectly OK for the job. So I
got a brand new 24v pump. Same problem, very little flow out the exhaust
stacks. So than I checked the injectors in the exhaust stacks themselves,
figuring they might simply be clogged. I cleaned and made sure the holes
were opened. Same problem. That left the electric shut off valve. I by
passed the valve with the hoses, and sure enough I had free flow! Ah Ha!
Must
be a bad 24v electric shut valve.
Now this valve was originally the oil delusion valve that came with the
airplane when I brought her some 18 years ago. The way I set up the wiring
was to open this valve when the pump was turned on. When I built my smoke
system (I am cheap) I left it in the same spot but put my smoke oil plumin
g
though it.
That=99s when I came to the Yaklist to seek out a substitute. Howe
ver it
turned out that Dough Sapp had a brand new original delusion valve in stoc
k,
which I bought. Not cheap (free is perfect) but definitely reasonable.
Soooooo yesterday as I remove the old valve from the front firewall, I
found that the cannon plug for its power was NOT HOOKED UP! As a matter o
f
fact I at first I could not even find it! So I got out the flash light a
nd
after a peering around in the area between the 1st & 2nd firewalls, I foun
d
it wrapped around some of the airlines. That must have happen in my
little acro routines. Boy! Did I feel stupid. But as my wife (a retired
social worker ) says =9CHoney, think of it as a "learning experience"
=9D. Well now
I have a new pump, and a new shutoff valve. And I got a lot of
suggestions from a lot of caring folks on this list. But perhaps I could h
ave gotten
another 18 years on the system IF I had just look a little deeper. Yes I
=99m
still a CASOB.
