Hi Sam and Doc, It is my feeling that the differential and proportioner are in good shape. The cable is no doubt an original Chinese cable that I believe has stretched some. Good news is I do have SS cable from Doug in stock. I may try the adjustment the retaining nut, but there is not much left on it Keith -------- Keith McKinley 700HS X26 Sebastian, FL Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=410488#410488

I think I know what you mean Walt and I guess my issue would be removing all the exterior painted screws without chipping everything (exacto knife!) Lots of work. It's amazing to me that when that glass was replaced that old 5 dollar seal went back in! I'm going to drill out one rivet and see what I find on the clearance. Thanks! Several years ago I had the same brake problem found the old cable was coming apart inside of the outer covering. Don't mess with adjustment. Install the replacement cable. Or you might get a nasty surprise. Made a new inside cable I think that was before anyone was selling replacement parts. Gary G. CJ. I installed all the new canopy glass with stainless steel counter sunk Philips head screws with fiber self locking nuts. Works well, can't remember if I used metric or SAE screws. Tried to forget about doing it after it was done. Tedious job. Gary G. CJ. N22YK PS They flush in well with the canopy frame. The part that the seal and retaining strip are riveted to is the external surround that holds the Plexiglas in place and is bolted to the frame with flush head screws. I think you will have to remove this to replace the seal. There is very little room between this and the aft face of the frame making it very difficult to drill out the existing rivets. Cherry Max rivets will likely not be an option as there is not enough space for the rivet stem. If you are able to get the old rivets out without damaging the very soft retaining strip it may be possible to use short 3/32" POP rivets. > > However, you can remove the surround without removing the windshield or center section glass though you would have to re-seal the glass on re-installation. > > Sorry for the misinformation. > > Walt > > -----Original Message----- From: keithmckinley > Sent: Sunday, October 13, 2013 7:52 PM > To: yak-list@matronics.com > Subject: Yak-List: Re: CJ canopy seal > > > Thanks Walt, > > It's very hard to see looking directly at the area but I do see what you mean looking at the detail in volume 1. My though is that without removing the front windscreen or center section (for the rear seal). Guy's, cable stretch to the degree that it would effect your brakes is a "wives tale". The cable is not stretching, your swedge might be slipping or the gob/ball of solder (on the stock cable) might be giving way, but the cable is not stretching. I would estimate that 75% of the guys who adjusted their cables because of "stretch" had the cable break soon after the adjustment. 1 - The cable is probably stretched because there isn't much adjustment left 2 - You should remove the wheel assemblies and check for glazed brake pads. Then check for a broken or missing felt grease seal on hub. It's the grease seal that fits into the large "cup" behind the rear bearing. If the felt grease seal is messed up or missing, grease from the rear bearing will sling outward onto the drum and brake pads causing the brake pads to glaze. Once glazed, the brakes will feel 'spongy'. Clean the brake pads with avgas and dry thoroughly. Then scuff the brake pads up with 60 grit wet/dry sandpaper. Dennis A. This is some info I was supplied with from a reliable source. What type of o il are you using? It has been observed that there is a valve sticking proble m with multi grade oils. Not sure what brand. It has been a couple of years since I got the info. But the suggestion that straight grade oils have not b een having the problem. Brakes pads, drums good to go, brand new felt seals. Minor adjustment on the stick at brake handle of maybe an 1/8" and the brake handle feels normal again. I plan on putting the SS cable I have on as soon as I can remember where I put it. Robin, I really doubt that the oil came from the prop as in a bad dome seal, or grease from the blade seal. You would see oil or grease streaks on the prop and you would have had oil and grease on the wings and fuse also. I think Walt's WAG is most likely close to the actual cause. Phillips 25/60 down here in Florida. 3&4 are low and also happen to be the hottest two on my CJ with a Housai. -------- Keith McKinley 700HS X26 Sebastian, FL Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=410563#410563

Easiest way to find out is to Pull the prop hub dome and piston and look ins ide the hub. If there is oil inside the hub, replace the piston inner seal ( also replace the outer seal) and make sure the oil tube is 100% tight. Agreed. Going to have to do that anyway. Betting on oil from he piston sea p ong through the bearings on the prop base. Doc Sent from my iPad On Oct 14, 2013, at 7:28 PM, "A.
