Subject: | Re: CJ6 Primer left /Right and manual pomp |
Hi Bruno
I have the sister of your aircraft (1 serial number out!) in the UK :)
Mine used to be very hard to start until I discovered the shower of sparks (boost
coil) was not working.
A way to check if boost coil works is to get the engine running nicely and then
at idle power and simultaneously whilst turning the mags off then press the start
button. If with the start button pressed in and held there and the mags turned
off the engine continues to run then the boost coil is working. IF the engine
dies then there is a problem with the start coil.
I do not recommend doing this for long periods of time as air will be injected
into the cyls.
I've found the primer on mine can be inclined to draw ALOT of air during the priming
stokes if you rush pulling up the primer handle. Make sure you get 4 to
6 full shots of fuel prime.
Also be aware the top knurled nut (part of the primer body) can be tightened to
give more or less resistance to moving the leaver up and down. I have found this
also seems to affect the amount of air that gets drawn in during priming so
check it and if its loose (tighten by hand only).
With the wobble pump, use it as much as required to get the fuel gauge (with engine
instruments turned on) showing pressure.

I have never been able to figure it out Phil. There are tube flanges on both sides
of the bulkhead. I assumed one was for a heating system and the other maybe
just fresh air off that scoop you mention. I've since added an additional blast
tube in the gills and use the flanges you describe to run a scat tube to
the rear cockpit. The positive pressure helps keep smoke entering the cockpit
from my smoke system to a minimum.

Hi all,
What are the best places for Yak parts in the USA? Specifically the Yak 50?
Will be replacing all rubber and non-stainless steel fittings. Also
replacing the generator with a B&C alternator and converting to automotive
plugs.
Thanks in advance.
Feel free to email directly at todd@fastaircraft.com

George Coy in Vermont (YAK) and doug Sapp in Oregon (CJ6). Yes, many CJ part
s work on the YAK 50.
Barrett Engines makes a spline shaft converter for the alternator. B&C makes
a voltage regulator the George Coy has the wiring diagram to hook the RU sy
stem directly up to the regulator.
For SS screws, nuts, and bolts try Maryland Metrics. That is all I can think
up for now.

Subject: | Re: CJ Questions |
Thanks Keith,
I was able to visit my CJ in CA and found I have scoops on both sides of my cowl.
Both have felt seals on the inside which sealed the heat muff to the cowl.
From the firewall back, there is around 2 1/2" metal insulated tubing to a heat
valve on each side of the cockpit. The right side feeds the front heat and
defrost, the left side tube feeds the rear cockpit.
I do not have the heat muffs and the firewall inlets are sealed.
Phil
