Subject: | Re: propeller pull through procedure |
It's a matter of record that Nicolaus Otto was in partnership with Eugene
Langen at the time of their first 4 cycle ICE experiments and that Gottlieb
Daimler was an employee.
As Herr Otto was far better at self promotion than the other two, so it
became the "Otto Cycle" rather than the Langen or Daimler cycle !
Makes no difference, it's still .....Suck-Squeeze-Bang-Blow to many, and is
still the most excellent process known to man of converting vast quantities
of rare fossil fuels into noise and fun !
How much further will the 'pull through procedure' thread be stretched ?

The mere mention of "Otto" causes me to return to those troubling sleepless
college years and invokes these images:
Thanks Walt.I hope you too will have the "I've got a final tomorrow on a
subject for which I've yet to get the books and go to the lecture" dreams
tonight.I know I will be having.
Oh yeah.then there's these 'laws".Damn you Newton!
Back to my lowest energy state.just corroding away here in the Bahamas.

There are a number of articles in the archives that discuss the topic of pulling
the gear retract cylinders. One of which I wrote. I've tried some of the
other procedures, but have had mixed results.
If you want details, please contact me off-line at: markbitterlich@embarqmail.com
or at work at: mark.bitterlich@navy.mil and I will talk to you in person
about the pro's and con's.
To sum it up in one sentence, it is in my opinion best to pull the whole landing
gear leg with cylinder attached, then it is to try to remove and replace the
cylinder leaving the gear leg bolted in.
Second, be aware there is a SET SCREW in the spin on collars of this actuator.
It could be hidden by paint of grease, but it is there! Without loosening this
screw, you will ruin the actuator trying to take it apart.

Subject: Yak-List: Yak 50 question
Couple of Yak 50 mx questions:
1 - Does anyone know of the best way to get the gear retraction cylinders out of
the wings?
2 - What is the preferred covering for the control surfaces?
Thanks!
