saw lots of discussion about fittings... One question: Apparently you save ~30lbs exchanging the old generator and accessories for a 35 Amp alternator. 30lbs on a 3000lb aircraft (CJ) will according to rough estimates, save you ~one percent on fuel costs. Math is not my strong suit (not even close)... but assuming 500 hours flown at an all in 15 gph, you would have saved 75 gallons a year correct? at $5.00 a gallon, that works out to $375. In two years, the unit has paid for itself - - not too shabby. Any other reasons to make the change or is this something best done upon generator failure? Thanks, Phil (CJ6A - C-FEPN)

That's all you need. However, you will be removing the generator, the over-voltage control, the generator voltage regulator, and the Combined System Device Relay (DMR-200). All of these parts can be sold. You can wire the LS-1A to control your original generator light if you want... .we can talk off line about that some time if you feel like it. Saves you from mounting their alternator light, which is by the way, only a low voltage indicator, but it still does what it is supposed to do. It's not a hard install. I had assumed that by choosing the M-14P and voltage regulator was all you needed to replace the original generator on the M-14P. I have a Yak 50 it is going on. What else do I need and where do I get it? I have ordered the below already. However understand that you will need a M14P generator oil seal plate to complete the installation. If you attempt to use the plate which is stock to your HS6A and has no oil seal, you will in a few hours destroy the new alternator due to drowning it in oil. I do not have the seal plates in stock at this time. Over the years I have read many postings on this forum regarding different alternators and their manufacturers and it seems B&C is winning the race. I guess many Nanchang owners like myself have removed all the obsolete original radio and navigation equipment and hence there is no more need for high amp output generation. So which one would be the better respectively the more dependable solution, the B&C SK35 (35amps) or the B&C SK50 (50amps), any pros and cons? Your opinion on this matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. cheers Elmar ========== rget="_blank">http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List =================================== http://forums.matronics.com ========== le, List Admin. ="_blank">http://www.matronics.com/contribution =================================== -- Best, Doug After all is said and done, more is said than done." -- Aesop http://www.matronics.com/Navigator?Yak-List http://forums.matronics.com http://www.matronics.com/contribution

I might suggest, dropping 30 pounds from the airplane, most on the nose, does require a new weight and balance.....a REAL weight and balance. ie: reweigh the airplane and calculate a new CG. Many people have added weight to the tail after removing much of the old avionics from the CJ. Now removing the old generator and VR will make the CG go even further aft. The only reason I bring this up is because without knowing what the new CG might beand then possibly putting a 200 lb+ person and baggage/stuff in the back could very well put the airplane in an out of CG(aft) condition. Has anyone done machining on the upper main gear pivot pin on a CJ? I have a new one and it needs the center through hole machined for the through bolt.

Call Keith Harbour with Avcraft in Columbus, NE. They did mine when they rebuilt the landing gear. tc Terry Calloway terrycalloway@mac.com 620-875-9450 On Feb 25, 2014, at 3:55 PM, Kelley Monroe <kelmonroe@comcast.net> wrote: > Has anyone done machining on the upper main gear pivot pin on a CJ? Hi again, I was wondering if anybody knows how to get an alternator conversion approved by Transport Canada? Who do I have to contact? What paperwork is required? Do I need a LSTC? How much would that whole scenario be in total, is it worth the cost and effort? Thank you again. cheers Elmar P.S.: So far I am pretty lucky with the generator system on my CJ but it has no over-voltage protection. What if the regulator goes TU and the bus voltage rises to a point where it fries expensive avionics?
