Guys,
I spoke to Tony at Desser yesterday and YES they are still recapping the
Chinese tires.
Also, has anyone out there actually ran a test, maybe one Desser and one
Chinese tire to see which wore out first?? My honest opinion and
experience tells me that either the Chinese have either changed their
rubber formulation or the "soft Chinese rubber" story is exactly that, a
story. The tires which we have available at this time are of current mfg,
not NOS. No one to date has mentioned any problems.

Subject: | Re: Tires for Cj |
In my opinion and based on my experience, THE absolute best way to
assure you not only have a long lasting tire, but a tire that will be
balanced and run smooth when installed, is to order Doug's Chinese
tiresand ship these brand new tires to Desser for retreading. Doing
this will cost about the same as buying one, new Desser tire, but will
last you 300+ hours of normal use versus 100 or so for the stock or new
Desser tire. Plus you have a 50% chance of a new Desser tire not
balancing properly when installed on the wheel assembly.
New Desser tires - Approximately $185 each
Cost of Doug's new Chinese tires - about half of the new tire price
Cost of retreading your cores - about half of the new tire price
Benefits = smooth running and 300+ hours of tread life.
The reason the retreaded tire is so well-balanced is because Desser
retreads AND BALANCESall their retreaded tires themselves at their
California plant. Whereas the new Desser tires are manufactured for
them by one of the tire manufacturersand whatever or however that
manufacturer balances the tire is what you get. Believe me when I tell
you I have been there, done that and gotten several T-shirts fighting
this problem and have replaced new Desser tires several times on the
same airplane and on the same wheels because of a balance problemwith
the new tires. The old tires on that airplane were as smooth as glass.
Changing to the retreaded tires solved the vibration/balance problem
immediately and they seem to last forever because of the much better
rubber compound of the retreads.

Chinese or Russian cores for recap."
Is not correct. I have a pair of Chinese tires there right now.

Contact Desser Tire in California. They are the only supplier in the US.
www.desser.com. They sell both the 500x150 and the 400x150 tires for
both the Yak's and CJ's. They are US manufactured tires for Desser.

Paul,
Doug Sapp here, I have the tires in stock, if interested please contact me
off list 590-826-4610 PST 8am to 5pm.
May I ask why you prefer to buy from China rather than someone here in the
US? I am sure that by the time you pay for the tires (you must pre pay
upfront) with a bank transfer ($40.00 at my bank), pay the shipping, and
customs your net cost will be higher than the US price. I might also add
that unless you know the seller you really have no recourse should he send
you something other than what you have ordered, or in the worse case, sends
you nothing at all. US parts vendors are here supporting the aviation
community and most if not all stand behind their products and do what's
right by their customers. I am not saying that the Chinese vendors will
not, just saying that you may find it easier and cheaper in the long run to
fix a problem with someone who actually speaks and understands English and
is a bit closer to home.
Best,
Doug

I have about 10 tires that need retread . Desser must have changed their minds
because I went to send a set in last year and they told me NO !
I know for a fact their retreads last a lot longer than the Russian tires .
I also know there new tires last about 1/3 as long as a recap for me and I am not
hard on tires. Doesn't matter where you get a tire to recap because Desser
inspects it before doing any work. If the sidewall is not good enough or the
cord is showing on the tread they will not do it.

Paul,
Doug Sapp here, I have the tires in stock, if interested please contact me off
list 590-826-4610 PST 8am to 5pm.
May I ask why you prefer to buy from China rather than someone here in the US?
I am sure that by the time you pay for the tires (you must pre pay upfront) with
a bank transfer ($40.00 at my bank), pay the shipping, and customs your net
cost will be higher than the US price. I might also add that unless you know
the seller you really have no recourse should he send you something other than
what you have ordered, or in the worse case, sends you nothing at all. US
parts vendors are here supporting the aviation community and most if not all stand
behind their products and do what's right by their customers. I am not saying
that the Chinese vendors will not, just saying that you may find it easier
and cheaper in the long run to fix a problem with someone who actually speaks
and understands English and is a bit closer to home.
Best,
Doug

I just bought new Tire from Doug and had zero balancing issues. Why wouldn't you
NOT use up the tread on the new tires before recapping?

I also have Chinese friends who are in aviation business there. I can tell

Subject: | Smoke system and ballast mounting |
Hello,
We have discovered a problem which might be hazardous. The transverse frame which
carries the ballast weights and the smoke tank on top is insecure and is at
risk of collapse into the fuselage, threatening the control runs (cables etc)
if the support gives way.
The frame was never intended to carry this much weight and has not been reinforced
when the weights and smoke tank were fitted. ANY aerobatics or a heavy landing
might cause loss of structural integrity in this area. I enclose a photo
of broken rivets which show the weakness. We can install additional support brackets
which will make this area secure .
How did you do for your system?

Subject: | Re: Smoke system and ballast mounting |
Just missing to say that's on a CJ6 ,
picture taken by the right trapdoor behind the wing, the yellow vertical bar is
to the front , the limit of the electronic compartment (most of them removed
, and now luggage compartment)
The ballast is made by 2 heavy steal plaque and smoke system fitted over it.
