OR by fuel expansion due to the heating. Just a poor design on the pre-'89 model Yak 52's. Usually the right vent line fills with fuel and causes the right tank not to feed properly. You can "step on the full tank"and fly level, holding that position for a minute or two and usually the fuel in the vent line will work its way outand the tank will begin feeding. As Bill said, use the rudder. Dennis A. The problem is most likely the vent line from the right ta nk is blocked by fuel that has essentially vapor locked in the line. That ha ppened with over filling the right tank or by not venting the tank when sitt ing in hot weather by not cracking the fuel cap. It has to do with the older YAK 52 vent line design taking both tank vent li nes to a single overflow line exit on the belly. Fuel gets caught in the sip hon from the right tank under your left check in the cockpit The fix is to take a rubber hose/ PCV (flexible) about 1/4 to 3/8's dia. Hoo k it too the vent line on the center of the fuselage pretty much right under the front cockpit and blow air through it until you hear air bubbling in th e tanks with the caps off the tank of course. Dennis taught me that trick. Now if you fly with auto gas there maybe some corrosion of the right tank re verse flow flapper valve. A bit more rare of a problem though. Snap rolls to the left then the right also works. Usua lly I raise the right wing with right rudder and left stick to drop the left wing. If stubborn I go the other (opposite) direction with adverse Yaw as w ell as while in adverse yaw shake the right up wing by rocking the stick le ft to right somewhat aggressively may help break the vapor lock. If it still is not flowing I'll do the snap rolls. If that did not solve it blow air through the vent line. On the ground of co urse. We now recommend installing these ball-check valveswhen installing the fuel bladders in a 52. They would be installed in the bladder filler plate. But the easiest way to do it with the original metal tanks is to install this ball-check valve in each fuel cap. http://www.fuelsafe.com/store/vent-check-valves/1flu101.html Installing it will provide a second vent line to the orginal tanks. Try flying right turns everywhere you go and see what happens. Left hand turn flying is easy not to notice. Even if tanks are off after a while one side will stop and then the other side will start draining. It will get your attention until the high side starts draining. Nothing may need to be "fixed at all" Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=424132#424132 ________________________________ Message 13 ____________________________________ Time: 10:05:06 PM PST US Subject: Yak-List: Yaks in RHV/LVK From: Younus Aftab Just joined the list. I am a private pilot and a current Mooney owner interested in Yaks. I am based at LVK (Livermore/San Francisco Area) and also fly out of RHV sometimes. I started doing aerobatics and thinking about either buying a yak or getting into partnership. Seems like the perfect plane for my mission going forward. Would love to meet people in the area (owners; pilots) Please let me know if somebody in the area is on the list or if you know people around here. Thanks! ________________________________ Message 14 ____________________________________ Time: 11:54:11 PM PST US From: "Frank Stelwagon" Subject: Yak-List: RE: Yaks in RHV/LVK When at RHV go to the north end of the field and visit Victory Aviation. Kreg handles numerous Yaks.
