Dennis Savarese" Subject: Re: Yak-List: Procedure for Emerg gear extension YAK18T I don't have a Yak 18T factory procedure, but I am pretty sure if you use t he procedure I have on my web site for a Yak 52 and CJ6, you will find it w ill eliminate the gear slamming down during the emergency gear extension. - The only difference is you don't have to deal with operation from the r ear cockpit.- So ignor anything related to the rear cockpit.- Go to htt p://www.yak-52.com/maintena.htm.- Read through it first and then decide i f you want to use it or not.- It is different from the procedure you are using and has worked extremely well for probably 15+ years.=0ADennis=0A=0A =0A________________________________=0A From: andrewfeneley =0ATo: yak-list@matronics.com =0ASent: Tuesday, August 19, 2014 10:32 PM=0ASubject: Yak-List: Procedure for Emerg gear extension YAK18T=0A l.com>=0A=0AEvery annual we test the emerg operation of the landing gear on our Yak18T.- We test it using the following sequence; Close off the main valve with the gear retracted, then drain the air from the system (using b rake lever), then open the reserve tank, then move the UC lever to neutral and the gear will retract. Mostly slamming down hard leg by leg and sometim es the final leg will need the lever moved all the way to 'down' position t o extend it. Question; Does anyone have the actual factory procedure? Is th ere a method to 'buffer' the violent slamming down. Dennis Savarese" Subject: Re: Yak-List: Re: Procedure for Emerg gear extension YAK18T That's correct because draining the air from the system as you were doing eliminates the back pressure in the gear actuators which acts like a "shock absorber" during gear extension. It will definitely work and the gear will not slam down during the emergency gear extension test. Just remember, once the system is filled(main air on) the lower the air pressure in the system, the faster the gear will come down because there is less back pressure. The 52 isn't suppose to have them on the emergency side, for obvious reasons. But some people do put them in on the emergency side of the shuttle valves to try and slow the gear extension down a bit. What many people don't think about though is the fact that the opposite side air pressure in the actuator (ie: the UP side) is the "shock absorber" during gear extension. Soas the air pressure in the system goes down, gear extension is more rapid. On jacks, the faster the gear comes down, the more shaking the airplane does. Dennis A.
