Controlling the gopro with your iOS device seriously affects the battery
life of the GoPro, FYI. I'm sure that's true for other cameras also.
You can buy extended life batteries, though.

I guess no one has used the VIRB. The features I like on the VIRB are the
Ant+ functionality, which allows it to interface with other devices, built
in GPS, G-Meter, and Altimeter, which can be then be overlaid with google
maps, and controlled from my Garmin Pilot App.
The GoPro is lighter, has better resolution and pic quality, and a lot of
mounting options.
I'm still torn.
