I'm sure that's true for other cameras also. You can buy extended life batteries, though. The features I like on the VIRB are the Ant+ functionality, which allows it to interface with other devices, built in GPS, G-Meter, and Altimeter, which can be then be overlaid with google maps, and controlled from my Garmin Pilot App. The GoPro is lighter, has better resolution and pic quality, and a lot of mounting options.
