It took me a while to find the videos and edit them.
Here is a link to Sergei teaching spins. My first try at them in 2005 when
he came to the yak event at Manitowoc.
http://youtu.be/1E6aM6n-9Xo
You can hear the coaching and the steps.
Idle - Stick back middle, no aileron - right rudder, then plan spins.
Then opposite rudder - stick neutral - plane recovers.
You will see my mistakes, but within 3-4 tries he=92s not yelling at me.
Point is to show steps, actually how the plane responds and =85.
The value of good instruction in the back seat.
I flew with him almost every year in the summer for 6 years. We added ever
y year to skills, and improvement on old skills.
Then in 2011 I wanted to lean to tumble. We had to lean inverted spins, b/
c if controls held in tumble, the result is an inverted spin.
Here is the video of the inverted spin training. Sorry not in color and it
was hazy with rain in the area out of OSH.
http://youtu.be/7e9ntmvQPq4
Enjoy and fly safe.

I will try to upload cockpit video of upright spins to You Tube
I also have some crappy video of inverted spins. I will post that to.

Very interesting. What I found interesting that you had difficulty in reaching
all the way to the front (with the stick)
So iow, you should tighten the straps just enough to still have full control of
the stick right into each far "corner".
....and no loose objects... :)

Yes. I was strapped tight. Knowing tumbles were on the list for the day.
I have done much more since then. Including in a 55. Figured out that lap belt
(ratcheting in the 55) holds you in the seat. Shoulder straps keep your face off
the panel in rapid deceleration. I fly with them more loose now and can reach
corners no problem. And can turn more to check six. :)

Subject: | Re: Prop nut torque |
I would expect to see the same blade preload for the Russian hub as well.
10Nm (7.2 lb/Ft) is a very minimal preload compared to similar Hamilton
Standard props. (2D30,12D40, etc) which is 50 lb/ft. and thrust bearing
design is identical. I would hazard a guess that the reason for this
preload could be to overcome any non-axial blade loading transferred to the
bearing area.

Subject: Yak-List: Re: Prop nut torque
It puzzles me how one can issue torque numbers for the blades when the nuts
only do one job, preload axial rollers. So Id be a bit worried to overload
those rollers heavily to achieve 10 Nm torque in a roller bearing that
normally has very low friction. What could be the effect if this torque was
only half or quart of the numbers, anybody an idea ? I only know the
Russian hub.
