    From: James Goolsby <cjpilot710@aol.com>
Greg, You'll need a flat head screw driver, with a thin blade also it's shank can' t be to large. Also you'll need a special tool to take off the flat notched nuts on the outside of the canopy. At one point this becomes a two man job . In the INSIDE of the cockpit, about where your shoulder would be, you'll fin d about a 1/4" hole along the canopy rail. This where you will insert the s crew driver. You have line up the bolt that holes the bearing with that ho le. The bearing bolt has a very shallow slot for the screw driver and you m ay have to fiddle with it some to get it to engage. Meanwhile your partner is out side with the special tool to remove the low p rofile notched nut. You can make this tool (I did by grinding a pair vice g ripes) or using a pair of needle nosed pliers. You'll need to unscrew 3 bolts on each side. When that is done, move the ca nopy to the rear where you find a slot in rail where you can remove the bear ing bolt. At this point you can pull the bottom of the canopy out slightly t o remove the bolts along with the bearing. Cussing during this process is normal while fiddling. Doug Sapp has the parts but I am not sure of the steps in gettin g the sliding canopy's off. The rear one appears that after removing a coup le of stops it should slide out towards the tail. The front one, I am not to o sure of. Has anyone removed the canopy's on a CJ and do you have any step b y step procedures, pictures, diagram, or input on how to replace the rollers ??? > > Any and all suggestions will appreciated. Yak 52 or CJ6? Very likely you have a bad check valve between the external air fill port and the pop off valve/pressure relief valve. I have anovernight test you can do to eliminate some other possibilities. Dennis A. =0AI wonder how much pressure drop you get from the hot ai r going cold? That would account for a drop but I don't know how much. You may want to purchase one of the u ltrasonic listening devices to find leaks. I found mine on eBay and have used it numerous times with success. Leaky check valves are easily found with this device. =0A =0APhil=0A =0A =0A-----Original Message-----=0AFrom: yakxx21 <ken@aeroalgarve.co m>=0ATo: yak-list <yak-list@matronics.com>=0ASent: Tue, Jan 27, 2015 10:00 am=0ASubject: Yak-List: THE OLD Proble..air leaks..with a algarve.com>=0A=0AMy air goes from 6 to 4 in one day but I cannot find out where...changed pop off =0Aand the two OUT valves...Main Air tap is OFF...but it still leaks..drives me =0A nuts...sprayed a whole can of soapy everywhere...where could it be =0Aleaking....BUT I notice that recently I cannot get off the external connection =0Aafter pressurizing without being Tar zan.....ie...I put in the air and its =0Aalmost impossible to turn the connector to get it off due to massive =0Apres sure....not sure what this means....after 5 mins its possible and then with =0Aa real gush of air...but the ext input do es not leak...I have sat for a long =0Atime looking at 'Sp it' ....=0A=0Aany ideas...oh yes..also when I fly it takes abo ut ten minutes to pump up from =0Aabout 4 to 5 HELP. ..!!!=0A=0A=0A=0A=0ARead this topic online here:=0A=0Ahttp://forums.matr =========================== =========================== =========================== =========================== - List Contribution Web Site -=0A -Matt =========================== ===========0A=0A=0A=0A=0A =0A

Thanks Phil....That leak detector is very interesting...but I see they tend to pick up a certain frequency 46khz I think, given out by a little transmitter...so im not sure which type to get...would you pls tell me which model you have found to do the job of picking up comp air leaks.... thanks Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=437719#437719

Air leak: Check needle and seat in the main air valve, it is std steel and often rusts. We carry a stainless replacement steel needle if needed. Air won't build: Check to make sure that compressor is pumping. Rubber glove over intake is best initial check. Check poppet valve, clean seat and check alu crush washers for leaks. We have a kit that has all the crush washers, poppet spring, and filter if needed. Check line between compressor and snot valve for cracks/leaks Check snot valve needle (is std steel) which has a problem with rust on the needle, your compressor may be having trouble overcoming the leak. Filler bleed back of air most likely is a bad check valve. Ken, My 2 cents.. and just some other comments. 1. Pay attention to what Dennis Savarese says... he has fixed a lot of air leaks. 2. An Ultrasonic Leak Detector is a good idea, but ... if you understand every single line, valve, pressure regulator, flow regulator, in the entire system, you can run tests that narrows it down. Enter Dennis. 3. You mentioned your air goes from 6 to 4 in one day. 6 is actually 60 Atmos, which is about 881 PSI (plus or minus) and this system is supposed to be set to 50 Atmos, which is about 735 PSI. Leaving it set too high can be why you are having a hard time removing the external fill line, simply because you've added about 146 PSI to the recommended pressure. Fix that ASAP. It also puts too much pressure on seals in the landing gear systems, etc. 4. When you are flying, see if the pressure comes up faster if you leave the landing gear down, then it does when it is up. If you, you might have a leaking landing gear actuator. They can leak when up and not down, and vice-versa. 5. Read #1 again. :-) I'm going to stay away from making any further recommendations simply because Dennis knows the 52 better than me. Hi there... We have a CJ-6 just imported out of Australia (VH-NNE) that has been flying with the serial number listed as 2432027. Inspection of the data plate would indicate that it is actually stamped as 3432027. Can anyone tell me if 343 is a valid factory ??? code? It is a 1968 model Need to ask so that when our Feds look at the data plate they will no doubt ask all sorts of questions! Regards, Jay New Zealand

For what it's worth, I've had a "secret weapon" for air leaks for awhile, an d I might as well tell the rest of the world... If you have access to a "freon sniffer", put a little R134 into the system a nd then charge it up. I guarantee you will be able to find it...those sniffe rs pick up even the slightest if freon leaks. I have never put more than a "shot" of it in the system, and then completely drained the system after the test. I also will tell you that I use only fre on, not that mixed freon/compressor oil crap you buy at auto stores. That ma y be what you are referring to "eating up the seals". I, personally, haven't ever experienced any repercussions with the pure freo n. You mentioned your air goes from 6 to 4 in one day. 6 is actually 60 Atmos, which is about 881 PSI (plus or minus) and this system is supposed to be set to 50 Atmos, which is about 735 PSI. Leaving it set too high can be why you are having a hard time removing the external fill line THIS WOULD BE NORMAL REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE PRESSURE IS 50 OR 60 ATMS IF HE DOES NOT BLEED THE AIR FILL LINE BEFORE HE ATTEMPTS TO REMOVE THE FITTING. I BELIEVE MOST SCUBA TANK FITTINGS HAVE A BLEED VALVE ON THEM. IF NOT USING A SCUBA TANK AND JUST USING A STRAIGHT HOSE TO THE EXTERNAL AIR FILL PORT, LOOSEN THE LARGE NUT ON THE HOSE END THAT GOES TO THE TANK AND BLEED THE LINE. FIRST MAKE SURE THE VALVE ON THE TANK IS CLOSED THOUGH., simply because you've added about 146 PSI to the recommended pressure. KEN HAS A YAK 50. HE EMAILED ME. BASED ON WHAT HE SAID, HE MAY HAVE TRIED REBUILDING THE CHECK VALVE ON THE INSIDE OF THE FIREWALL, WHICH IS FOR THE EMERGENCY SIDE. NOT THE MAIN SIDE THAT WAS LEAKING DOWN.

=0AThe middle digits ( "320" ) is the factory number (Nancha ng). The first 2 digits indicate either the batch number that airframe was made in OR the aircraft number in that b atch. The same with the last two digits.=0ARight now I ca n't remember which. I wrote an article a number years ago in RedAlert and printed a list of batch number dates. Some of the batches were only 10 aircraft or so. Some b atches had as many as 80.
