    Subject: Air Leak Advice
    From: "AcroGimp" <jlknolla@aol.com>
New owner, had plane for about 2 months now. I noticed that while in flight the air was not really pumping up, I suspected maybe an up-lock so I tried isolating the system by going to neutral on the FWD gear handle for the past couple flights and it now pumps up to about 50 ATM just fine. While on the ground it does not seem to make up air either (even at 60-70%) - is it possible/recommended to isolate the system when on the ground assuming the Gear lock slide is in place? Or does it just take more time to pump up than I am either patient for or for which CHT allows? Before I call in the mechanic I would like to try and troubleshoot further and am looking for suggestions on the most likely things to check first, and any other recommendations. Thanks in advance. I have a spare Huosai 285HP engine that has been hydra locked. Can the bent rod be replaced without removing the engine? Does the crankshaft have to come out to change the bent rod? Thanks Kelley

Assuming the HUOSIA is the the same, less horse power than the M14, the answ er is yes but it is entertaining unless you pull the crank case free of the s upercharger case. The nose case with the reduction gears have to be separate d from the crank case. Next will be to pull the thrust gear plate that also drives the prop governor spline shaft. A standard gear puller will not work . You will have to machine a gear puller that will fit the holes in the face of the plate. The puller will have to work on holes that aligned like the t imes of an isosceles triangle by the way. The Russians wanted to play with y our mind. Next comes the cam lobe plates. When you get to this point, you ma y as well pull the whole engine down, IRAN it, and rebuild it. Watch your timing alignment marks. They are single line etching on the spli ne gears. Looking something like this -= where the single etched line line s up with and goes between the two hash marks on female spline gear. In some cases that etched line will be a single dot on the male spline shaft that aligns between two dots on the female gear. To help relocate them I us ed a paint pin to highlight them after cleaning the parts in the parts washe r. You will have to ask Doug for the Huosai torque settings on the wrist bol ts. You are going to really enjoy the air start lines and the start spider! For the second time around I sent the engine to Barrett engines in Tulsa. Good luck, Doc Sent from my iPad > On Mar 29, 2015, at 6:33 PM, Kelley Monroe <kelmonroe@comcast.net> wrote: > > I have a spare Huosai 285HP engine that has been hydra locked. > Can the bent rod be replaced without removing the engine? > Does the crankshaft have to come out to change the bent rod? > > Thanks Kelley > > > > 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D 3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3 D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D >
