I have had intermittent issues with my stall warning on my Yak-52. Have had looked at by a mechanic and he is baffled. He checked at the wiring thinking it was a short being that it was intermittent. As if now its not working at all. Has anyone had a similar issue? John, First I would check you Operating Limitations to make sure your airplane has been blessed for IFR or as I would say you are not restricted to VFR only. My OPS Specs says my airplane is approved for VFR and IFR. If not, then that opens up another can of worms to get it changed. If your good there then FAR91 says you need day and night VFR stuff plus the IFR Specific instruments. Approved and current updates if your using a GPS, log of VOR checks if using a VOR for navigation and obviously the pitot static and transponder and encoder. Current charts electronic or paper and don't mention the crazy Chinese attitude indicator. But if you are IFR using that indicator, I believe your asking for trouble in an upset recovery. I'm going through same process as you and Ernie. I don't gave or want an all glass cockpit. It would be nice but U really don't plan on flying hard IFR. An autopilot is a MUST with single pilot IFR. I'll be looking at an extra radio and the TRIO autopilot at Sun n Fun. Take care. On Apr 10, 2015 9:11 PM, "Jon Blake" <jblake207@comcast.net> wrote: > Thanks Bear... Good stuff. Is the switch in the "official" mode? If I remember it can be turned off. Chris, So what were your stall warning intermittent issues ... which combination of red stall light / yellow low speed / audio tone triggered unexpectedly? Is your stall sensor heater still working? Rob R Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=440643#440643

I know you said you don=99t want a glass cockpit, but while there, check out the Dynon booth. At least check out the D2 as a backup for ~$1,000 ; http://dynonavionics.com/docs/PocketPanel.html Here is quick picture of my pit Note: it=99s in the hangar so synthetic vision isn=99t on. Just put on new engine, some adjustments left. Want to test fly it in the pattern without cowling, to facilitate work on the ground. Anyone have experience with this in regards to cylinder temps Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=440676#440676

Don't do that! Any ground running of the engine without the cowling must be limited to idle or very low power for a short period of time. Flight without the cowl may well be suicidal. The reason for this is simply that the cylinders cannot properly cool. Air cooling depends on the cowl and cylinder baffle combination to force cooling air under pressure to flow in close contact with the cylinder fins. That worked for rotary engines and some early radials but without any cylinder baffling. Danged! Why take that risk?! It's such a simple cowling to put and take off. Don't do it. Your CHT's are going to be all over the place! Run it without t he cowling then check it with the LASE temp gun. You will be totally confuse d by the numbers you see. Walt and Bill are correct. Subject: Re: Air Leak Advice
    From: "AcroGimp" <jlknolla@aol.com>
Update 3 - Flew a form training sortie today after the check valve overhaul, with gear handle UP it was pumping up super slow in the air, setting gear neutral and it pumped up to and regulated at 50 but it seemed to take maybe 15 minutes (took off at about 30-35 Atm after a bunch of taxiing). Mechanic suspects fwd gear handle (we had no noise from the actuators or a perceptible leak at the gear handles in the UP position on our gear swings yesterday). But, looking at the compressor banjo fitting he thought the crush washers might either be missing or not right size - looked at a spare compressor with a banjo fitting on it and definitely looks different. When I pull the snot valve release after shutdown I get a good blow down through the valve, sounds like other Yak's I have heard - so it seems the compressor is putting air out, just not sure how much. Issue seems to be engine running and gear UP - ideas?
