Jay, we can supply a "reverse" adapter that will allow a V530 hub to mount on a
western (SAE) flanged or electric start engine.

There is some confusion here, possibly because there is a "B" engine and
also a "B" propeller flange in MT descriptions. So to confirm:
*The AI 14 (260 hp); the HS6 (285 horsepower) and the (quite rare) M 14
B engine (360 hp) all have a propeller shaft with longitudinal splines.
*The M 14 P and PF have a propeller shaft with a six bolt flat "plate".
*However, this "plate" either has the original Russian radial splines,
and in terms of MT terminology is the "K" flange, or an American SAE
(for example Lycoming) flat flange, called "B" in MT terminology. These
two are interchangeable, but the gearbox needs to be disassembled to do
this.
*MT propellers were originally made with only the SAE "B" flange, and in
order to fit this onto the Russian propeller shaft, an adapter between
engine and propeller was used. With encouragement from us, and
presumably others, MT then brought out the "K" flange which could be
bolted to the original Russian "plate" type flange without an adapter.
*To the best of my knowledge, you cannot put the shaft with longitudinal
spines (as on M 14 B engine) onto the P or PF engine .
*So, when Jay refers to an engine that has a "B" flange, he is using the
MT terminology =93 i.e. the engine has the SAE (Lycoming) flange
=93 and he wants to put on the Russian V-530 hub. However, this
hub was only made to be used with the Russian flat flange with radial
splines. So, if he wants to go down this route he needs to change the
output flange on the gearbox.
*We, and of course others in the US, can change this output shaft.

George Coy at Gesoco in Vermont can get you a spline prop shaft to
replace the western prop shaft. Then you can have him ship it to Jill
and Carl at M14P and ship the nose case to them and they will do the
swap for you. I know as I have done just that.
Alternatively, switch to a MTV-9 prop that comes with your flange of
choice.

Subject: Yak-List: V530 hub query
Hi all,
being more conversant in things Nanchang and Haosai related, I have a
customer looking to buy an M-14PF engine that has a 'B' or western prop
flange.
He wants to put a V530 hub on it with Whirlwind blades.
Can anyone confirm for me if the V530 hub is now made with a western
style prop flange rather than the original splined flange?
Thanks, Jay

George =93 you are correct, and I have seen them in Romania, but
had forgotten! So that is a simple way of joining a Russian hub (whether
V-530 or MT) to an SAE flange.

Subject: | Re: Air Leak Advice |
4-20-15 Update
So I did a couple engine runs today to see if I could build any pressure and still
no joy - no indication of pumping up on the gage and nothing out of the snot
valve on shutdown.
Will try the rubber glove test on compressor intake on Thursday AM, and if that
shows good will replace crush washers at banjo (most likely/most hoped for right
now).
Want to verify that just pulling a few blades through should be enough to see if
compressor is sucking air through filter.
If compressor is sucking and banjo fitting doesn't fix it, would seem like line
from banjo to snot valve, or snot valve itself would be next most likely culprit.
I don't want to just shotgun it so advice appreciated.

How long after take off have you run the prop at 100%?
You may have sheared the drive on the engine driven compressor...

Gimp,
You are on track. If the glove does not inflate you most likely have your problem.
If your compressor check valve is clean and is free moving. If you change
the crush washers while the airline to the snot valve is disconnected from the
check valve do a compression test with the glove directly on the check valve.
That would be the ultimate answer to the question of is the compressor making
air.
The piston and spring inside the check valve be installed backwards too.
More food for thought.

Dan I am usually pulling back to ~82% shortly after takeoff, especially on form
training flights - I don't think I've kept 100% in for more than 90 seconds,
2 minutes max.
During last couple form sorties a friend and fellow yak pilot did show that you
can use the prop for catching up in-flight but that was limited to about 90%
and for periods of well under a minute.
That said, I am aware of the shear rivets in the drive and am concerned about that
since the flight before it acted up it ran as well as it ever has with respect
to pneumatics. Hoping for simple...
