Did you try replacing the seal on the oil tube (screws into the front) that supplies oil to the prop hub? That seal leaked on my 50 and I thought for sure it was the front case seal and turned out I save myself a lot of trouble. (Thanks to Vladimir Yastremski) Just a thought, and a lot easier than the front case seal which take a special tool to remove (never done it, just watched it being done). If you are going to do it yourself you are going to need that tool, and the only ones I am aware of are those that been custom built, but I am sure "The Big Guys" have them. Oh come on Bill. You can't be comparing those rioters to Army helicopter pilots? I know Army helicopter pilots can as gross and disrespectful as a Marine but beat up a woman in a wheel chair, burn down a nursing home or beat up a police car? Whatever you say Doc. -----Original Message----- From: owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-yak-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Roger Kemp Sent: Tuesday, April 28, 2015 12:39 AM Subject: Re: Yak-List: Air compressor tear down Show me what? My disassembled accessory case, pinion gear ( part #14-614-110), pinion case # 14-614-107), shear pin # 14-614-107), the Bain of the compressor drive shaft, the shear pin (#14-611-252-01), the gasket x 2 (# 14-011-340), and my compressor (AK-50) removed off the the accessory case? Mark, I realized it (the case) was there with the two gaskets when I pulled the compressor off to crack the accessory case off the super charger case. Those pictures came from my totally disassembled M-14 that I tore down. The parts are stored in sealed plastic boxes for spare parts. I'll rebuild it after I retire. A replacement zero time M-14 P engine in the local area became available so I bought it to expedite things. What does not excite me is the re-attachment of the air lines to the start spider. And timing it. Will cross that bridge in due time. Other fish to fry for now. By the way, I have a complete engine rebuild kit from Aerostar. It includes all of the gaskets among other things. The pain in finding parts in it is needing the catalog to look up the parts numbers to see what the part is. Since all of the parts are wrapped in waxed brown paper with that special Romanian manor of folding and sealing without tape. They use the terms gasket and crush washer interchangeably just to make parts diving interesting! That is entirely possible if it was stuck to the engine real good and you yanked on the compressor and just that part came off. In my case, both pieces came off, ... twice .... and I needed to replace both gaskets. Regardless, personally when I take the torque off the bolts that hold a gasket in place I always replace it. Just a quickie on Sun & Fun. We had 16 airplanes show up. CJ-6s and one Yak-52. We have to give a BIG thanks to Bill "Pirate" Mills and his "Heels" (aka Kim) for hosting us with steaks, bratwurst, cookies, beer, rum etc etc The friendship around their RV after show time, will long be remembered. Weather was in one word HOT. Two afternoon TS during the whole time. Some - - NO - - a lot of mud. There was a real mix-up in EAA/EAAWB about the airshow scheduling which they tried to make up to us as best they could. With the T-birds there, they didn't have much wiggle room. Longer story later. Because of it yours truly got to play at being an announcer for 2 days. BTW Bill Fisher (EAAWB) and I make a pretty good team at it. ;-) A lot of 'eye candy'. (must a T-bird induced phenomenon) For the first time ever, we were able to plan and have our airplanes (a CJ-6 & the Yak-52) do some acro durning our turn in front of the crowd. I personally logged over 4 hours of formation airshow time. For me the most meaningful part was on the last day. Myself, Pirate, and with Rich "Smiley" Langer as lead, flew a missing man at show start in honor of the MIAs (3) whose remains have just been returned home from VN. If you missed it - - - well there is always next year. Or even OSH! Jim "Pappy" Goolsby
