I use a 300 cu/ft bottle that was converted from a nitrogen fitting to an air fitting. Your gas supplier can do this, as well as the hydro test that is due every 10 years. The process used to create medical breathing gas and industrial compressed air is the same. The difference is whether you require a medical certificate or not. A big difference in price for the cert. The filling process starts on a balanced line of other bottles where all are first purged with Nitrogen, stabilized for several hours and then Oxygen is added to the correct percentage. This process delivers air that is 99.9% free from moisture. My last bottle a few weeks ago cost $50 for the fill. My primary test for any vehicle purchase is if that the bottle and dolly will slide in and fit. Don't go Yak without air in the Back :) Craig Payne

I use an industrial bottle (Air Liquide). Costs a bit more, but it's dry, for sure. For emergency, I have a scuba bottle, refilled by the firefighters in my town (as metioned on the list, if you ask gently, they might help you). Re: Compressed ... AIR ! (Yakovlevs Display Team Aero India 2015 / VE Day) Dennis has a very good point : > Please don't use the word "Oxygen" in conjunction with "breathing air". > Someone will use "oxygen" when requesting a tank from > a welding company and bingo, we'll have another > major accident. i.e. : Like - I'd like a size 300 tank of breathing OXYGEN. > Ask for dry, breathing air ONLY. > It has been mentioned on this forum before but it is worth repeating : DO NOT put oxygen in the air system ! Unless you want to be blown up - in a literal sense !! - when you start your Yak (CJ). Use compressed air only. NO OXYGEN (O2) in the AIR TANKS ! YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT ! Philips 25W-60 which is for radial engines. From the Philips web site:"X/C 25W-60 Aviation Oil is recommended for use in radial piston engines and in other aviation piston engines originally designed to run on heavier-grade oils, such as Commercial Grade 120." I've always used Aeroshell 100 straight 50 weight oil. However, the local oil company where I've always bought my oil went out of business. Through another local company I can get the multi viscosity Phillips 20w50, but not sure about using it in a round motor, especially in the hot environment of the SE US. What say you? Jon, http://www.airplaneoil.com/AeroShell_w100_Oil_p/aero100w-qts.htm?gclid=COK D6YuSs8UCFQsJaQodyrIAKg One way to get it... If you go to the Phillips, I'd get 25W60... It's made for radials. Some people say the Phillips leaks out of the engine more than the Aeroshell . If you search the yak-list with the matronics search engine you'll get a lot of opinions on this very subject from over many years! The main consideration with this kind of oil is the temperature extremes that you experience. Ernie's Aeroshell 100 is fine if you live in a stable climate with very little temperature change. Otherwise Phillips 20-60W Radial Engine Oil is the way to go. The Phillips designation is actually X/C 25W60. A quick description of the viscosity identification as some may be confused by the different numbers: -- The original aviation designation for oil viscosity measurement was given in Saybolt Universal Seconds or SUS. That is still in use by Shell, Exxon and others for their traditional oils. E.G. Aeroshell 65, 80, 100 and 120. Multi-grade aviation oils use the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) designation system. E.G. Aeroshell 15W50, Phillips X/C 20W50 and 25W60. Correlation:-- SUS 120 = SAE 60, SUS 100 = SAE 50, SUS 80 = SAE 40. I've always used Aeroshell 100 straight 50 weight oil. However, the local oil company where I've always bought my oil went out of business. Through another local company I can get the multi viscosity Phillips 20w50, but not sure about using it in a round motor, especially in the hot environment of the SE US. What say you? I also have a Wilga and it is the same story. Flies like a bird and lands like a brick, it is like a wild horse till you get used to it. Otherwise beautiful airplane. Good luck.
