Turkey Buzzards are a bitch. Have had two bird strikes in the YAKs. Dawn and dusk are particularly high risk times for all types of bird strikes. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 02:44:55 PM PST US From: "Mark Davis" Subject: RE: Yak-List: Bird strike This reminds me of a training flight in Pensacola around 1980 where a T-34 took a turkey buzzard through the windscreen. It knocked the student in front out and blinded the Marine IP in the back with all of the blood and guts from the buzzard. The IP couldn't communicate with the stud in front so he assumed he was dead and bailed out. The stud woke up and a short time later, cleared the guts from his face and flew back to Whiting Field solo. Knocked his first solo flight out without a checkride! Went full force into the right duct. The good old J52 ate it, but wasn't very happy, but kept running. Screwed up a great low level. Landed and had pretty massive damage to the first stage considering how well it was running!
