That's incredible!
Keeping a pair of long, mechanical fingers in your tool box for that "just
in case" situation helps in removing the caps and rings instead of the poss
ibility of having to remove the oil tank.=C2- How do I know this works?
=C2- Anyone want to guess?=C2- :-)) http://www.lowes.com/pd_79041-56005

We had a customer with oil pressure problems in a Yak 18T, and after some
investigation found no less than 17 oil caps or their retaining rings in th
e
oil tank!

I recently started the engine on my CJ6 intending to fly but noticed that
the oil pressure had dropped to zero. The engine was shut down and the
aircraft secured. 6 days later my mx guy (Jason Berman) and I (Jason mostly
)
explored the problem. We determine that the oil pump was putting out
pressure but the oil was not getting out of the reservoir. Oil was returnin
g
but not getting out.
Long story short we found after drawing all the oil out that a plastic oil
cap from a quart oil container had somehow gotten into the reservoir and
made its way to the oil outlet and blocked it. It had probably been there
for along time and just happened to make its way to block the oil outlet. W
e
had to remove the oil reservoir in order to extract the oil cap. I would
guess that most people when they change the oil do not inspect the inside o
f
the reservoir.=C2- It would probably be a good idea to start doing such a
n
inspection.

In regard to using forceps to remove the cap...don't believe you could do that
as the hole in the baffling is too small for the cap to go thru and it would be
almost impossible to get forceps down the left side and even if you did it would
be a tight squeeze coming up that side. :?

Think I have done most mistakes one can do when flying Yaks !
But I 'm sure there is still room for 'improvement' ! [Laughing] [Laughing]
Was hoping to get there today with a friend's Yak-52 :
