The check valves in the system are there for a reason. They are suppose to prevent the air from dumping overboard. The Schrader v alve on the external air fill port is nothing more than an adapter for the h ose used to fill the bottles. Just because the Schrader valve comes with a v alve core when it was purchased, does not mean it has to remain in the Schra der valve. > > I know,...... you're going to say the valve core is a backup. But it also can be a trouble shooting hindrance if one of the check valves protecting t he main or emergency air system is leaking. With the valve core out, if the check valve leaks, you'll be able to see bubbles at the external air fill p ort with just a finger of saliva on the opening or spraying soapy water on t he opening. > > Dennis > > From: "jblake207@comcast.net" <jblake207@comcast.net> > To: Yak-List <yak-list@matronics.com> > Sent: Friday, August 21, 2015 11:43 AM > Subject: Re: Yak-List: Nanchang Air System > > I recently experienced a leak in my air system and chased it for weeks... n ever found it using soapy water method. Using a friend's Freon leak detecto r, I shot a small amount of Freon into the system (had to do some re-enginee ring on hoses fittings to make it work with the Freon bottle and airplane Sc hrader valve) and then filled the system to about 10 atmospheres with compr essed air... opened the main air valve to allow the Freon access to the enti re system. Using the Freon sniffer, I found a couple of leaks... taking Dou g Sapp's advice, used non-hardening aviation grade thread sealant (sort of l ike Loctite) on the threads, rebuilt a couple of the check valves, replaced t he valve core in the Schrader valve (main fill point) with a high pressure v alve core... now she holds air. > > Freon and freon sniffer were the keys to finding those small irritating le aks. > > JB > > Sent from my iPhone > > > On Aug 20, 2015, at 18:05, Byron Fox <byronmfox@gmail.com> wrote: > > > > > > 14 years ago, I'd turn the main air off and come back a week later to > > discover there was still 30+ atmospheres (or CMUs - Chinese Mystery > > Units - or whatever) still in the plumbing south of the main shutoff > > valve. > > > > To maintain this happy state of affairs over time, I've overhauled the > > gear actuators, replaced front and back seat gear and flap valves, and > > routinely service check and shuttle valves. > > > > That brings us to today. To all the wonderful folks who have worried about Kathleen and myself, here is a short update on our situation: The worst seems to be over for our immediate area, but the fire storm is still very active and moving rapidly both north west and sour east of our location. We managed, thanks to the combined efforts of all the family to protect the home place without any loss. We are indeed fortunate as many of our good friends were not so lucky. The actual fire got within about 2 miles of our home, flying embers pushed by 30+ mph winds were starting spot fires 3-4 miles down wind of the actual fire line, they were our biggest worry. Here is a link to the fire map. http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=47.842658%2C-120.031815&z=12&t=h%2CWind_in_6_hrs%2CMODIS_thermal%2CCurrent_fire&q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.propertylinemaps.com%2Fp%2Fpublic_land_map%2FUSA%2FUSA_wildland_fire.txt No tally on the losses yet but the fire now is nearing 400 square miles, homes lost number in the hundreds at last count, livestock numbers will be staggering as most were out on summer range, which was totally over run by fire, truly a disaster of epic proportions and it looks to not be over yet. I apologize, for not responding earlier but things were pretty frantic here for the past few days, and when they weren't frantic, after being on 24 hour fire watch sleep was the major goal. Bless you all for your thoughts and prayers. You can't do both.

Just got this from Dave King: =9CDave King spoke to Doug this morning. His home is "surrounded 360 by fires, but they have held it off. He and his family are taking shifts on "ember patrol" with hoses and have all of their irrigation and sprinklers running 24/7. He wanted to thank all who have posted or left messages, but in Doug's typical understated fashion said he is "just too busy to reply now". Another bit of important (and good) news! Asked if they were OK. He said they were fine just smoky. Sent him another email Friday... No response since then.
