There is a fuel tank access port on the bottom of the wing. This is easily
seen, externally. There is also a fuel tank access port on the root of the
wing. Perhaps there is a leak on the upper side of this root access
panel? It would only weep slightly during inverted flight, but the fuel
could migrate to the belly area during the uptight portion of your flights.

Has anyone experienced carburetor ice while flying a Yak, and how was the
situation resolved? Is carburetor ice a common problem with M14-P engines?

Of course, it depends which model of Yak or Sukhoi since some have carb
heat and others don't. From memory, 52 and 18 T do have it, whereas 55
and all Sukhois do not, and they rely on getting warm air from behind
the engine in cold weather. Also, in the case of Sukhois, they have a
cold air intake to the carburettor which should be blanked in cold
weather. This inevitably means that they are susceptible to carburettor
icing, but fortunately the M 14 P carburettor is not that prone to
icing. But it is easy to detect, since the throttle begins to stick, and
this is the first sign of icing. So if you're flying in icing
conditions, it's worth moving the throttle frequently to see if it is
becoming stiff, and if it is, and if you are in an aircraft without carb
heat then you should descend! We had a UK 55 "land" short of the
airfield when the pilot was unable to open the throttle on finals.

Richard-
Good to know. I've got a Yak 55, but I live in Arizona, where water is
rare... Moving the throttle/ECL sounds like a good idea.
I'm new to this airplane. I've got the MT prop, but my landing gear
extensions go forward, and not down. this actually reduces prop clearance,
I believe. How are the gear extensions supposed to be installed?
(Cleveland wheels/brakes are installed.)
Thank you!

Anyone thought about doing this?
Buy two of these badboys and associated probes... Only $1325...
http://www.mglavionics.com/html/velocity.html#tc-3
I realize it's two spots on the panel, but it would be nice to have such an
inexpensive solution to get all 9 egt/cht's.. I have plenty of room in my
M14 Powered Wilga...

Interesting. Thanks for posting. What my attention was at the very bottom of
their page. The 10,000uF capacitor.
I defer to Mark B. On this but will it be useful placed inline close to the T
ach Generator?
