I have been giving some thought to adding a second brake handle and cable to the
front cockpit of my Yak 52. I have known of a few cable failures over the years
and would like to have a back up. Has anyone on the list engineered a solution?
No sence reinventing the wheel if it has already been done.

Don't re-engineer a good system. You will be creating a new headache for your self.
Keep the cable lubricated. Replace the cable if you feel it needs to be.

I kind of go with Doc. Just keep an eye on the cable and its feel. I've
owned my CJ-6 over 21 years. I replaced the factory 1969 cable a couple of
years, after I bought it. I replaced the handle at the same time, with
one made by Bill Blackwell out in AZ. Both have been in the airplane some 18
years or so with just minor adjustment now and then. And I fly my
airplane a lot +/- 100 hrs/yr.
The cable is the lest likely to fail. More likely the rubber in the de
booster (QS-1) or diverter (QS-2) will start leaking. Then you will find the
brake pads will ware. That is where most of your problem will come from.

Doc's point is spot on!=C2-=C2- The cable failures you have heard or re
ad about were very likely due to improper adjustments and inadequate mainte
nance over the years of operation.Dennis=C2-
