Most folks felt that it was not a common (enough) problem and most of the time they had a GIB anyway. It was simply a toggle like red lever on the panel, which was normally in the up position, to apply the emergency brake one had only to bat the lever to the down position. Once applied both brakes were applied equally IF the rudder bar was parallel to the firewall. To release simply place the lever to the up position. About cable problems: Cables seldom brake without warning. The warning is often so subtle that you will miss it if your not paying attention. The warning often comes in the form of your cable getting longer. Brake cables DO NOT stretch, your cable is breaking--do not simply tighten up the cable to get rid of the "stretch". Years ago we started having our cables built here in the states using US aircraft cable and a MS stainless steel ball swaged to the cable end in lieu of the gob of lead solder as is used by the Chinese.
