Subject: | Housai engine for sale. |
I'm selling my 650 hours Housai engine which I've taken of my CJ.
It for some unknown reason, developed a crack under cylinder #2, on the bac
k housing plate. I have a replacement housing plate which you can see in th
e attached photo and I've been told by an overhaul shop that the engine can b
e dismantled and rebuilt for approx. $ 2500. Engine is in good working ord
er with good compression and oil pressure and be good for another 1000 hours
, if you continue to care for it as I did.
I'm asking $ 5000 including the extra plate, as is, at my location. KCMA.

When pushing start button, all I got was whoosh of air and no propeller movement.
Heard air leaking, I think from behind dash. Any ideas?

Air start valve is tits. Get a new one from Doug Sapp. It is on the inside firewall
at about the level of your left big toe. If you have a YAK. 52. A pain in
the ass to change.

Agree with Ernie. But if you heard the rush of air on pressing the start but
ton the air start is failing. Did you hear a pop when the air start was enga
ged? If not the solenoid is failing.

Could be a blown air distributor check valve located on the compression cyli
nder; I had one so corroded it broke in half and was hanging on by the safe
ty wire. There are 9 of course. Similar symptom you described.

My 55 does something similar. The starter button is real springy, and
soft. When I press on it, with the master switch off, it makes a faint
hissing sound. It is an air valve, and an electrical switch as well,
correct?

It's an air solenoid, and electrically actuated air valve. It is
very common however for the air distributor to get caught "in between"
cylinders for lack of a better description, thereby venting air out an
exhaust or intake valve. Pulling the prop through a little usually corrects
the issue. If it happens often then you need to look at the distributor
timing, which I have never done, but I understand it to be magic.

I was referring to the air distributor.
