I am looking for a solution to a brake problem. I cannot get enough pressure on
the brake handle to hold the aircraft during the engine runup . The airplane
creeps ahead. We tried adjusting the end of the boden cable but that just puts
the brakes on without squeezing the handle. It seems like the pucks are slipping
so maybe they need replacement or roughing up? Any ideas?
Thanks

A couple of things Gordo.=C2- First you should remove the hubs and confir
m the felt grease seals are in place on the inside of the hub.=C2- If the
grease seal is broken or missing, grease from the bearings is being "spash
ed" all over the brakes and the drum area.=C2- Replace the felt grease se
al.=C2- Then clean the brake pads with avgas.=C2- Let them dry.=C2- T
hen scuff them up with 60 grit wet/dry sandpaper.=C2- Do this on both mai
ns.=C2- If you don't know where the felt grease seals are, particularly t
he one on the back side of the hub, contact me off-list and I will do my be
st to "point" you to it.
Secondly, you may want to rebuild the brake reducing valve.=C2- I have se
en on several occasions the brake reducing valve was not outputing an adequ
ate amount of pressure.=C2- Doug Sapp, the CJ6 parts supplier, has the re
building kits.=C2- It is 100% identical to the brake reducing valve on th
e Yak 50 and 52.=C2- Doug also has the felt seals.

None in the valve. I've used aeroshell (forgot the number) on the flap hinge torque
tubes.
Sorry am 30 miles away from my hanger at this time so can't look in my supply cabinet
for the exact #.

Over the past winter I have stayed out of trouble by doing a complete
overhaul of two J9-G1 props.
One has new blades, both are in like-new condition and are offered for
sale.
If you need a replacement or want a spare contact me OFF-LIST at
wlannon@shaw.ca or 250-485-8698.

The 55 has them, perhaps the 50 and 52 do as well. I broke one of the
