Gee, unless you're wanting to keep the airplane "original" or its a detailed restoration, I personally got rid of the damn things. Yes Yes I know - negative G forces and all that, but I just don't do negative maneuvers in my CJ. BUT you can replace them with just about anything that has equivalent strength. Although leather is original, good heavy duty Velcro straps would work. If you really want to stick to the original type, try Doug Sapp or George Coy, if they can't help, then google up, the nearest leather shop, take the remains of the strap, and they can duplicate it real easy. Or go to a local place that sell riding equipment, they always have odd and ends of different leather straps used around horses. Jim "Pappy" Goolsby In a message dated 5/22/2016 10:14:19 P.M. Ernie, This could easily be a case of 20/20 hindsight. There have been quite a variety of recommendations from many folks right here on this list of exactly what to inject into the air system. It runs quite the gamut, from ACF-50, to pneumatic air tool oil (I fell prey to that one), to castor oil, to alcohol, WD-40, and a mix of many I have not mentioned. There are indeed task cards somewhere that call for the injection of a mix, and I am sure someone can remember those details since this topic comes up every year or so. I think Jan does it, and several other Yak owners. I personally do not, not after having the landing gear actuator seals fall apart from having put air tool oil into my system. What I do now is not for publication since I don't want others to blame me if it goes wrong for them! Point it, it is entirely possible that Avcraft was following what they felt was good advice from experts on this very list! It is ALSO possible that the previous aircraft owner having read about the "expert advice" from so many, that he TOLD them to do it, and they made a logbook entry accordingly. Point of fact is that it might at least be worth asking them about before making a total condemnation. Mark p.s. available? Personally I am uncomfortable with anything that can come apart and fall down into control linkages, and leather straps and buckles on the rudder pedals fall into that category. Yes, my feet have flown off the rudder pedals and up behind the control panel the first time I applied significant negative G. I was surprised and wondered where the heck my feet were! However, this was also due to not being properly strapped into the aircraft. My harness was nowhere NEAR tight enough! I went right out and purchased the best Hooker Harness I could, and then cranked that thing down until it was hard to breath. At that point I had no more trouble with my feet, or my head hitting the canopy, etc. So my point is, those things do serve a purpose, but you can easily learn to fly without them, and what is more important is being strapped in properly and just learning to deal with it. Of course I could be wrong. Subject: G - Warning system operation?
    From: "flier" <flier@sbcglobal.net>
One of our '52s has had a G warning lamp flickering for the last few years. Anyone have insight into the operation of the system? Flew a cross-country over the weekend and a flickering red light can get annoying over time :? Thanks, Ted Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=456507#456507
