While I suspect there are good sources of this in the US, it took us a
lot of research to find a European source for high quality homes when
our Russian supplies dried up. But we now have a good source, and charge
Euro 45 =93 today $58 for sufficient material for the 18 tubes.
They are 2 mm smaller outside diameter, so we have a supply nice plated
clamps which are Euro 32 ($41) for 18.

Sometimes, not always, I have a hiss coming from behind the gear handle. Is there
something back ther that needs mx once in a while? Also, who sells the brake
reducing box overhaul kit (the little box under right side of pilot seat)

Dan,
The pneumatic system (gear and flap valves in the cockpits) normally vent
to the atmosphere via holes in these valves, that is the hiss you hear when
the gear/flaps go up and down. You should hear it EVERY time the system
cycles.
It's really hard for me to determine what you need by your description "brake
reducing box overhaul kit (the little box under right side of pilot seat)"
This is why god invented part numbers! Check your parts books (Vol #1)
or if you don't have a set go to my web site http://cj6.com/ and you will
find a set there, or give me a call (509-826-4610) so I can better
understand and make sure you get the correct parts.

I have always wondered if there was actually a published max wear
measurement for the Yak/CJ brake drum. So today I decided to practice what
I preach and sat down with a stack of manuals and started reading. It's
amazing what can be found with a bit of due diligence. I found the info in
the PT-6 Trainer Aircraft Overhaul Manual (Airframe Accessories).
Oddly enough section 12-1 "Brake Disk" only yielded the minimum thickness
of the brake pad, which is 8mm.
Section 11-1 "Landing gear Wheel" explains the max number of and depth of
groves in the brake drum and mentions that the drum can be turned to a
MAXIMUM ID of 196mm. It goes on to say that if the drum is blank it should
be turned out to 195mm (new dia). If you do the math this works out to
just shy of .040 worth of wear. I am sure these numbers will be applicable
to the Yak 18T,50,52 and the CJ6 and many others.
Some of you may recall a shipment of brake drums which were found to be to
small in the ID to fit over the pads. These must have been the blank drums
as described in section 11-1.
